Final Guest Count

Brittney, on July 29, 2012 at 12:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

For any married ladies or those of you getting married soonSmiley laughid you actually have a final guest list? My RSVP date is Wednesday, but I'm itching to get those last 40 peoples answers! I've tried to call as many people as I can but a lot of them are my dads aunts/uncles. One of my dads uncles just died yesterday so I feel terrible bothering them or my dad with silly guest list questions.

Can I just leave an extra table open? How many RSVPs did you never get back? Do people that don't RSVP usually not come?

I had all but two RSVPs on time. The final count still changed the day before by about 10%. I wouldn't call people before the deadline though.

I thought I would only need the 18 days from the finals RSVP date until the wedding, but boy was that a stupid idea. So I have just been calling all the people that I am close with.

Did people just call you the day before and say "hey I'm coming to your wedding now!??

No, the two non-RSVPers said "Of course you know we'll be there!"

The 10% change were last minute cancellations. ALL from OOT guests so that just makes me wonder - to this day - if they actually ever planned on attending.

So you probably need some leeway, but it's a gamble. Phyllisan is the only bride I've ever seen who had MORE people than she planned on. Other people typically have no-shows.

I know it's weird to bother your dad, and I would give them a couple of days, but ultimately you need your final count. I also thought you changed your venue to your parents' house? If so, why do you need the count now?

Yeah, I was going to give them all a few days and have my dad call them. Maybe it would be a good way to get the family together on a good occasion instead of a sad one.

We are going to try to have it at my parents house, and we would just need to know for food and tables and chairs. And the seating chart. Maybe I'm just too worried about it lol.

I think it will make more sense to call people once you're sure if you're changing the venue. Then you can tell them about the change and say that you need the response because of it ASAP.

Believe me, I understand the desire for a final count. Our RSVP date is a month away, and I've already started to work up seating arrangements (it's futile at this point, I know!). We're so anxious to get some RSVPs back so we know if we can invite people from our "B" list.

But I would resist the urge to make any more calls until after your RSVP date has passed. Your guests haven't been negligent until after the RSVP date has passed. I would probably wait until the weekend, in case mail delivery is a little slow -- and then I would start with the follow up calls.
