Film and digital photographers (hybrid)

Maureen, on March 1, 2021 at 8:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Did anyone have one of each? I’d like some 35mm film photos along with our digital photos. Our digital photographer does not shoot film, so I’m thinking of having a film photographer for only get ready shots, before meeting up with our digital photographers at the church.

Any particular reason you want film?

I would be cautious hiring another photographer...check your contract with your current digital photographer. Some have a clause that the contract will be voided if another progressional photographer is hired for the same event.

I understand the clause, but do you think that would really count if it’s outside of their paid timeline? I wouldn’t have them mixed throughout the day. I’ve always have wanted film, I know how to shoot film myself and the medium is just so beautiful. My digital photographer told us they could shoot a few film shots with my camera but wouldn’t develop or anything like that - and tbh my equipment is so old I wouldn’t trust my camera.

Hmm, I suppose if they don't overlap then that would probably be ok, but best to consult with the people you hire directly. If you have your heart set on film, definitely hire someone who knows the medium. I wouldn't trust having your digital person do "just a few shots." Not only for equipment reasons but quality too.

I agree! I reached out to a few film photographers and told them in the inquiry that it would only be in the morning, still looking to see how those calls will go with further info. And I am also going to reach out to digital and see what they say. I obviously don’t want to break any rules or contracts! When I first reached out to a film photographer to do our whole wedding day, it was WAYYYY over our photo budget, so maybe if I only have them in the morning without it being a problem with digital I’ll be able to have the best of both worlds.

Did you end up finding a film photographer? How did you go about your search? I'm also looking for a photographer who shoots film or shoots a combination of film and digital, but I'm having a hard time even finding one. Just been doing google searches so far but it's been difficult.
