Haha filling out our marriage license the wedding woman at the desk said “be super careful you fill out everything exactly right , it’s very important !” So we’re sitting filling out this form and we get to Mother’s Middle Name and H confidentially writes “Elizabeth” and I was like “really?? I had no idea!!” And he was like “yeah” then a pause then ... “I’m 90% sure, it’s either that or Mary” ...so he hesitates and then is like “no I know this , it’s definitely Elizabeth”


SO we just happen to be seeing his mother immediately after this so he just casually asks “your middle name is Elizabeth, right?” And she kind of laughs and is like “are you serious? You’re joking, right ?” So he’s like “omg is it Mary ?!?!” ...and again she’s like “no ?!?!” ...turns out, she DOESNT EVEN HAVE a middle name 🤣🤣🤣. Hahaha I was cracking up. He had to do a walk of shame and run and call the town clerk and see if she could fix it .

Haha! When we did ours I had to ask my dad how he spelled his name, and my mom kept texting me back saying it was spelled with just his middle name on his drivers license. The clerk told me it needed to be what his birth certificate said and he couldn’t remember!

There are at least four or five traditional and common spellings of daughter's middle name. When she was born, we chose the version that's only two syllables (vs all the rest that are three) since her first name is three syllables and I thought that was a lot in one baby's name. Throughout her life she has had to call me to double-check the spelling of her middle name.... I'm like, WHAT??? She's a smart young woman...how does she not yet know how to spell her name at this point????? On her 8th grade confirmation certificate it only has her middle initial because when she was filling out the paperwork she wasn't sure of the spelling and didn't want to admit it to the Pastor collecting the forms, so she just dropped the name and used an initial.... Luckily she at least knew her name started with a "K" rather than a "C."

So my mother and I have the same middle name, I have the incorrect spacing for both of our names.

When the clerk ask I wanted to call my mom as well but I had to leave my phone in the car.

DH found out the hard way that his birth certificate and the rest of his documents don't match (his bc has both parents' last name - MIL didn't change hers - but his other documents just have his father's last name).

I did tell him the NJ MVC is, uh, The Bad Place, but did he listen?

If you don't use your middle name that much, it shouldn't matter, but ... when you have the time, might be best to straighten it all out.
