Fiestaware vs. Mikasa

Melissa, on October 10, 2013 at 11:35 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I can't decide what table setting to register for???

I have a few friends who had Fiestaware on their registries and love it. I am also drawn to Mikasa. I've been told Fiestware is the way to go because its dishwasher safe, been around for years, so I can always be adding items to the collection.

Thoughts???

I love fiestaware! here's what i love to do with it though, but pieces in different colors. that way, if it ever chips and the color is no longer in stock, you can just add another color. it's fun and adds variety to my kitchen. although....for some reason, FH only wants to eat off of the blue plate...lol. guys are so weird sometimes.

Fiestaware....we registered for two colors. Yellow and Blue...can't imagine who registered for those colors...oh yeah my FH who's a Mich U fan! DUH! lol. hahaha. Figured let him pick the colors...but the two colors are great.

Go w/ Fiestaware they seemed really sturdy and have great size bowls too. Literally a cereal bowl and the jumbo bowl and big jumbo cups. I love fiestaware. In fact if we don't get any of it, I'm pretty sure that's what I'll buy off our registry of all the things...and maybe the stainless steel colander set.

I love my FiestaWare - i love that nothing has to match.

I have a very clumsy 10 year old - since I got my first set of it, I have went to consignment shops to fill in what he has broken.

Only downfall to Fiesta is that it is hard to find serving pieces - I have had to order them online.

Also, Macy's always has great sales on them!

I have the Lucerne White Bone China from Mikasa. I use them every day, they don't scratch and they are microwave safe and dishwasher safe. I run them in the dishwasher every day and I they look great! I love them! They are much lighter than fiestaware too.

Read the reviews on the sets you like. I loved a set from Mikasa but it had the worst reviews.

I don't have Fiesta Ware, but I do have ironstone and it weighs a ton. Almost impossible to lift a stack of 12 dinner plates into a high cupboard. If I had it to do over again, I probably would not buy it. Besides being heavy, it does chip, crack, and craze. It is dishwasher & microwave safe -- just not DH safe. And it is no longer made, so replacing items is difficult and expensive.

Every time I hear the word "Fiestaware", I want to kick myself. My husband's grandparents had a complete set of Turquoise Fiestaware from the late 1930's -- the vintage stuff. They had everything...right down to the completer sets. We were given the set in the late 1980s. Being the brilliant 26 year old that I was, I had no appreciation for it and couldn't see beyond the loud color. I sold it to a collector for an embarrassing amount a few years later. I had no idea what I had. It still hurts....

Fiestaware! It's so classic, can be casual or dressed up, it's durable, you can play with the colors...I mean, what's not to like???
