Fiance - retired miltary veteran - dress blues/dress whites....

KK77, on March 5, 2019 at 10:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Looking for some thoughts and etiquette on grooms attire. Disclosure - we are older and have both been married before. He has never had a wedding - it was a JP with no family present. He is a retired Army veteran. Highly decorated and humble. I have had both a formal and informal wedding and want to him to have what he wants. I am just happy to have found my soulmate Smiley smile . We are in the beginning planning stages so information here would be helpful. Thank you!

OMG - sorry about the spelling military, typing way too fast.

There is no etiquette that I am aware. He can wear whatever he wants. My FH and groomsmen will be wearing white button ups, tan vests, blue jeans, and boots.

That sounds lovely! We had talked about having a small wedding where he would wear his dress blues and I would have a gown. Not a big production or huge reception. We are both in agreement that we do not want spend alot of money here. Maybe a late morning wedding and then a big family barbecue. Or perhaps a later wedding - like 7pm and then the barbecue the next day. Or maybe we take off on horses with an officiant and get married in the woods, Lol.

I want to honor his service as I know his 20+ years in the service has made him the man he is. He mentioned that he could wear his dress blues/whites when we attend an army ball on the east coast.

I think him wearing his dress blues is a great idea.

We priced his uniform and the metals yesterday online. Smiley kiss . It gave both of us heartburn, though I did tell him it was an investment if we are going to attend an army ball. So dress blues, my gown and doughnuts for the guests.....lol

My fiance just got out of the Marines but is still in that timeframe where they can call him back for 2 more years if need be. He just opted to stop going to drill. I had asked him if he wanted to wear his dress blues but for comfort he said he didn't want to because his is too tight/restricting! He said buying new ones is crazy priced so he still has the same ones he started with. I agreed with him, plus with a normal tux he can take off his jacket and it not look odd/wrong and adds more comfort for dancing!

Yes, I saw the pricing on them. About 2 times my dress, at least. Thank you for the suggestion.

There is no etiquette about that. My father was career airforce. He asked me what I wanted him to wear, I asked him what he wanted to wear. We were both thrilled he wanted to wear his Blues. It made me so happy.
