Fiance Can't Smile In Photos - Help!

My DH is an Aspie, and I have many photos where he is not just not smiling, but looks miserable! Ironically, he didn't like the way he looked in those photos - but he says "I *thought* I was smiling..." This disconnect I don't know if it's his autism, but as a result we did a LOT of practice with photos before our engagement photos to find a look he likes in his photos. But he still needs some prompting.

I will often say quietly to him as we're looking at the camera "Laugh!!!", or even reach over and grab his butt, or tickle him, to make him spontaneously smile.

I also gave him some tips that women seem to know from being socialized that way... Men aren't taught things like:

- Laugh at a joke in your own head to get a natural smile

- Look *past* the camera, over the photog's shoulder, so you're not focused on the camera but the pics look like you're looking at the lens

On a related note, we found out his brother never smiles in photos because he's self-conscious about his teeth! His teeth are *fine*, but he doesn't believe it. So you should also check if he is uncomfortable with his teeth, and if he is you can ask him to do some test photos with just you, to prove to him that it looks fine, and will not look bad in pictures, and show him how much happier he looks when he smiles fully.

Maybe showing your FH side-by-side comparisons will help... I also did this with my FH, with snapshots I took at home when he was cooking or with friends, and then showed him the formal shots where he knew he was being photographed. Here's one where he *thought* he was smiling - and one where he really was. Hope this all helps!

My FH is refusing posed photos.. However we will have some. I intend whispering naughty things to make him smile!

My FH tends to grin rather than smile and hates being in photos. Our best engagement photos are from when we made each other laugh. I plan to tell the photographers to get a lot of candid photos for the wedding (they didn't do the engagement pics).

Thanks so much for the great ideas everyone! I'm glad I'm not alone in this and that it seems to be pretty common with guys. A lot of people have told me that on the day of, he'll be so happy that it won't be a problem so I hope that's true!

My FH is the same way (exhibit A, profile pic, but if you look on my page, the cover picture is a natural smile bc I was making aces at him to start with) I always make weird faces or tickles and poke him to make him smile, he doesn't like it, but it gets a smile every time ;P
