Fh/bm ties

Futuremrs, on June 3, 2019 at 2:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
I am trying to find a tie for my FH and his BM and had the idea of trying to find something that pseudo matched my future daughter's flower girl dress. She'd get a kick out of matching her dad. But I haven't really found anything like her dress below. The closest I found had a black background, but he's wearing light grey pants and vest. Not sure what his brother/BM is wearing, but I'm going to push for similar. It's an outdoor garden wedding in July in NJ, so I suggested not wearing jackets. I don't want heat stroke on our wedding day.

So I just a crazy idea of trying to DIY the 2 ties. I found instructions online and they don't look very difficult. I don't sew a lot, but in my past I've made full-length, long-sleeved dresses with pleats/gathers. Much more complicated than a neck tie. And my mom has sewed my whole life, so I could ask her for help if I got stuck. I was thinking I could just buy 2 of the dresses (they're about $30) and use one to make the ties.

I don't really want to do it. It's not a saving money issue. I just can't find any ties that look anything like the FG dress. And I'm pushing for that. It doesn't have to be an exact match, but I can't even find similar. Has anyone else made neck ties?

I don't sew, so I can't speak to making the neckties, but if you don't want to, then what if you chose one or two of the colors of the dress and having the tie be that color scheme versus that pattern, per se (for example purple and green stripes)?

Another non-sewer here! Have you looked at Azazie? They have different shades of purple that could match the flower girl dress. They have men's accessories like ties and bow-ties!

I bet you could buy 2 cheap white ties and the extra dress, cut to size, and glue with fabric glue. Minimum work, no skill needed.
If you try this on 1 tie it didn't work- there would still be plenty of fabric left to do it the traditional way. You added your mom sews- why not just ask for her help? I'm sure for an accomplished seamstress this wouldn't be a big deal and as your mom she'd love to help. Smiley smile

Look into the TieBar- lots of options and colors for little boys.

I found this one on Amazon, it's kinda similar. Good luck if you decide to make ties! Be sure to post pictures!
