Female ushers

For brides with female usher, did you ask them to find a dress similar to the BP or did you just ask them to coordinate (I.e both in a blush dress)?

Ushers should be able to wear something they want as long as its formal. They aren't part of your BP and don't need to match your wedding.

While I do view them as part of the BP and have them participate in formal photography as such, I do think it wonderful that they have "coordinating wardrobe freedom".

I asked them to pick a dress they liked from Azazie in one of four different colors. (BM dresses also from Azazie in black). They're cousins and ended up coordinating with each other. We're also making sure they have corsages.

ETA: We paid for their dresses, so ordering from Azazie made it easier because we ordered everything at once. Otherwise, I would probably have asked them to just pick a dress they liked that matched the formality of the wedding.

Not sure, but are female ushers referred to as hostesses?

@Elle yes, people refer to women that usher as hostesses. OP I think they'd be fine to wear whatever. I don't think it's necessary to have them match the BP.

I don't think I've ever had a wedding with dedicated ushers; they are usually part of the bridal party so they are already dressed.

I'd just let them wear what they want.

I gave them the option, telling them they didn't have to if they didn't want to, but they really liked the dresses and decided to coordinate with the BMs
