Female Friend as Officiant - Flowers?

Jess & Sean, on March 1, 2014 at 5:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

So I am trying to confirm my flower order with my florist, and there is one person I forgot about - our officiant!

She is actually my fiancee's best friend from college, and someone I have also grown close to over the years. Her plan (as of right now) is to wear a suit for the ceremony and then change into a dress for the rest of the night.

I know that we aren't required to buy any sort of flower for our officiant, but I think I'd like to get her something. We aren't having a bridal party, but my sisters are carrying flowers and I am buying wrist corsages for our readers (and boutonnieres for my fiancee, his bro, our fathers, and one usher).

I'm iffy in that if I were officiating a wedding as a female, I probably wouldn't want to wear a pin corsage - and she also can't wear this for the rest of the night. But I'm also unsure if a wrist corsage would "go" with a suit, and it seems impractical for her to carry flowers.

Any floral advice for me, wedding gurus?? Thanks!

Boutennieres are for women too, just look at it like a brooch

I think its a nice gesture. I'm not close to our officiant, but since he's a part of the ceremony I purchased him a boutonniere. I'd purchase her a pinned on corsage (I purchased them for the mothers as well as for one of my readers). I'm not into the wrist corsages, but it really is your preference, but it might get in the way during the ceremony though - so I'd opt for a pin on. Why can't she wear the corsage for the rest of the night?

My best friend is our officiant and I am getting here a wrist corsage, I'm going that route only because her dress wouldn't look right with a pin on.

Several of my couples have ordered bouts or wrist thingies, and while I think it's very, very thoughtful, the wrist thing usually gets in the way of the mic or the book. What about a nice little bouquet or arrangement that she can take home with her?

My friend from middle school is officiating our wedding. We ordered her a pin corsage.

A corsage with magnets instead of a pin (if you're worried about damaging her suit)?

We're doing a boutonniere for our female officiant so that we can give her flowers that won't get in the way while she's officiating.

At least offer!! Though your wedding officiant is (or at least should be) compensated for his or her services, the wedding officiant is a vital member of your wedding party with the most important and significant role in the wedding ceremony. He or she should be invited to be in your wedding photos and should be appropriately dressed to match the wedding party (including a boutineer).
