Feeling overwhelmed

Katie, on November 2, 2019 at 7:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
I know I have a lot of time to plan my wedding, it's a year and 10 months away. But I feel overwhelmed already, like I'm in way over my head. And I don't really have the money to hire a wedding planner. Anyone else feel this way. And if so is there anything you did to make it not seem so overwhelming?

Go through the checklist on here or on another app/website, one thing at a time. Save some money every month for payments. Buy decor or other little items a little at a time.

I did one pice at a time. I’m about 6 months out and I’ve booked the venue, bought a dress and today booked a photographer/video. Next is a dj. We’re going to do a Save the Date after engagement photos. I like my little spiral small notebook where I make notes, write phone numbers, questions for vendors, etc. You can make it simple or extravagant one piece at a time.

Relax, if you have that long to plan you will be fine. Get your big stuff done and know you have plenty to do but lots of time to do it especially before you even hit 12 months.

Just pace yourself and enjoy the process. When you have a longer engagement you can pace yourself to do a little at a time. You got this.

Use a checklist or make one. Go through and pick the things that are most important to you and your FH. For us, food is most important so that’s where our budget started.

I feel where you’re coming from. The good thing is you do have a lot of time to get everything worked out. I’d say if you honestly want a planner (regardless of if you can afford one right now), then reach out to a planner and get to know what they would require and when…see if it’s possible to save up little by little to secure their services by the 12 month mark. Or even later than that possibly. If you’re a DIY kinda gal, maybe purchase a few look-books to carry around. Sure, Pinterest is free, but having a hard copy to strum through for inspiration helps! Do one bit at a time!!

I feel overwhelmed too. Excited but overwhelmed. I know that I have huge ideas and little time to execute them. I really want awesome photos with my FH in Paris, Amsterdam, Disney World, and a local vineyard for Save the Dates and our wedding website and programs (magazine-style). I’m a graphic designer (side-gig) so visuals excite me lol.

I don’t worry as much about cost as I do time…but the fact that I haven’t confirmed anything just yet is what’s overwhelming me. In the meantime, I’ve gathered a TON of info from vendors I’m interested in and related investments.

Good luck with everything and just enjoy as much as you can about planning and all the wonderful possibilities!! ❤️

First, chill out. You have so much time! My wedding is in 2 weeks and we will have been engaged for 4 months. I did not hire a wedding planner either!

Trust, Trust, Trust. If someone is reliable and has offered to help you in any way, let them help you and then don't worry about it. DIY doesn't mean do EVERYTHING yourself!

Have a catch-all wedding notebook that you write down random wedding things in. This has SAVED me!

Just concentrate on one thing at a time. Yes, I have felt overwhelmed at times and I just prayed that it all would work out and usually if I do that everything does work out!

Stay positive about planning! This is important! Don't dwell on what could go wrong!

    Best Wishes!Smiley heart

I know that a lot of people are really successful at using the website checklist, I am someone that has to write things and be able to physically touch it. I bought an Erin Condren wedding planner. I absolutely love it, plus I feel like we will be able to look back at it in the future! We got engaged Decmeber 01, 2018, and are getting married August 08, 2020 and girl I swear I have been planning since the day we got engaged!

Personally I felt planning overwhelming as well but I went on amazon and found a wedding planning book with checklists inside broken down by month. Made things much more manageable and once I settled on the big things like the venue/date things feel a lot easier now.

One step at a time. Little by little. Check lists are your best friend. You can tackle things slowly with this much time 😊

I was totally overwhelmed because no one wanted to do anything to help me, even though they kept saying that if I needed help ask. I'd ask and get excuses. What I did was scale back on plans. I went more casual. Easy to make centerpieces, buying my flowers, decorations, and dinnerware on Amazon. I did most of my wedding shopping on Amazon actually, and it saved me so much time and a ton of headaches. I'd say try that, even if you don't buy, at least look online and it'll help you figure out exactly what you want to have
