Feeling discouraged 😞

Maddie, on December 8, 2019 at 2:00 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
Yesterday I went to my 1st bridal boutique. I was so excited to try on wedding dresses as I have been dreaming of this day for forever. My bridal party and I (4 bridesmaids, 2 mothers & me) walked into the store and was greeted by one of the consultants. She gave me some paperwork to fill out and told us to go start looking at the wedding dress racks. I gave the consultant 6 dresses, from the one designer they carry, for her to pull for me to try on. She comes back and states that they have NONE of those dresses but she can try to pull similar ones. With the help of the consultant and the bridal party we pull about 8 dresses. I try them on but none of them felt even close to “the one”. The consultant lady was nice but she definitely had the attitude that she was only there because she gets a paycheck. I left that bridal shop so unsatisfied and discouraged. It was nothing like I imagined going dress shopping to be.

I feel like trying to find my dress is more stressful than wedding planning itself! I feel really discouraged and was wondering if I am the only one.

It's ok. Some women find their dress right a way and some it takes a few different stores. Don't let that discourage you. Try some different stores and some more dresses. You'll find one you love. 😊😊😊

Don't be discouraged. Bad customer service can ruin any shopping experience. I had a great consultant and that makes a big difference. It sounds like you have specific dress or designer in mind. You can try and call ahead to the next shop, and see if they carry the dresses you would like to try. Like the PP said not everyone finds their dress on the first try. Some people try on one dress, others try 20. I would also say be open to try on other designers or styles even if you have your heart set on something specific. That way you'll have options and If you hate them all, then you will confirm that you only like "designer/style x".

Good luck, with the next bridal salon.

I’ve been too a few shops and there are a ton of consultants that are like that. It’s them not you and they’ll lose business. However, when you find someone attentive, it’s worth the wait. Finding a small mom and pop shop really helped, and bizarrely enough, I found going on a weekday was much better for me.

Not everyone has that omg moment - sometimes its just knowing that you love that dress and feel great in it! The most important part is that you feel amazing on your wedding day, and I promise there is a dress that will make you feel gorgeous. You might be like me where you try a dress on, love it, then try on others but keep thinking about that one...that was me. My consultant said my face literally lit up when she brought it back in! My consultant was wonderful, but she didn't really offer suggestions. It really depends on the day, the mood you're in, how the consultant is feeling. Keep going girl! Congrats on your engagement and good luck!

I also second going on a weekday with a smaller party. I went on a weekday by myself just so I could try things on, and it was basically just let in the store! Night and day to when we came back on Saturday so j could show my mom the dress I loved. There were people everywhere, kids sobbing, gowns being flung all over the place. It was CHAOS. Not fun or relaxing at all.

I think o tried on 30+ dresses before I found the one. I ended up going with something a little different than I expected, so definitely try on every style to rule out the ones you don't like. Some shops are more attentive than others, but it definitely isnt like Say Yes to the Dress.

I personally had a good experience at David's bridal but ended up buying my dress from a charity. So, the people there were volunteers and didn't really help (I'm sure they would have if I asked). I just had my FMIL and a friend go with me when I found it.
If you have time try not to worry about finding it immediately. It's a fun experience to try on dresses. While I'm happy I found my dress, I'm a little sad I didn't get to keep looking lol I had to cancel 4 other appointments I had at other shops lol

I feel you. It took me several shops to find The One, but it’s so worth it.

Unless the shop you went to was a designer’s flagship shop, that’s weird they only carried 1 designer! And very lame they had samples on the floor they no longer carried. I never once ran into that! Please don’t be discouraged. Not a great shop.

Honestly don't feel discouraged. I went to my first bridal appt and also had the same feeling. I guess a lot of us go into it thinking we'll find the one right away but it's best not to settle on the first try and go to other bridal boutiques. I think many of us go into it with very high expectations and instead I think it's best to go into it open minded and enjoy the experience. I think the more dresses you try on the more you'll get a feel for what you like and don't like. I found my dress at my 2nd bridal boutique and instantly knew it was the one. Don't worry you'll get there just keep looking.
