If you're having your wedding during meal time, you should feed people a full meal. If it's not durring meal time (i.e. a ceremony around 1 and ending before 5) then cake and appetizers is fine.

If I went to a wedding during dinner and all they offered was cake, I would leave.

I haven’t, but it’s fine as long as the reception is during a non-meal time.

I’ve never attended a wedding like this and had never even heard of this until joining WW. As long as it’s not a mealtime (2-5pm ish) it’s ok.

I have and it was fine because honestly, I have never gone to a wedding and really ate the food that is given to me other than maybe the fruit. So much food gets wasted at weddings so as long as it isn't around meal time it should be fine.

No, I've only been to weddings with a cocktail hour with multiple apps followed by a full, multi-course dinner.

I have attended an early afternoon wedding, with light refreshments to follow, typically called a cake and punch reception. It was fine because both the timeline and "light refreshments" on the invitation, gave guests all the information they needed, Everyone knew there would not be a full meal and no one would expect one at 2:30 in the afternoon.

I have! Usually they're planned during non-mealtimes. They're much more casual and low key compared to weddings with actual meals. They're obviously a cheaper option, but that doesn't mean it's not fun and a great experience. I really enjoy them.

    No.

It's fine to do this but like others have said it must be at a non meal time and be prepared for your guests to stay only an hour or two.

I've been to some weddings with just finger foods - one was all appetizers, but enough for a meal, one was a reception of a few hours, in neither case did people leave early. If you have enough appetizers (quantity and variety) to constitute a meal then it's fine to do it at a meal time. I really enjoy the atmosphere a cocktail party style reception brings. Honestly, i won't be sad if I never go to another more traditional reception for the rest of my life. I have never been to just a cake and punch reception for a wedding, though.

It's fine as long as it's not during mealtime. I've been to a cake and put reception along with an appetizer reception both were at non meal times.

The only cake & punch receptions I’ve been to were held at a church. Ceremony was at like 2-230. Cake & punch until 4 in the courtyard area. Then everyone went home.
