Fear of trying on wedding dresses

michelle, on June 15, 2017 at 2:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

After reading reviews of different bridal stores, I'm finding people stating they only have small dress sizes to try on and now I'm worried I won't have any dresses to try on. I've gained a significant amount of weight in the last couple years and now am around a size 12. I know wedding dress sizes are different than street sizes and now am wondering if I need to call the stores I'm going to be visiting to see if I can fit into their samples. I guess my question what sizes do most bridal stores have samples in?

I'm a size 12 and every place I went to to try on gown had my size. I think you'll be fine! But if you want to call ahead, do so. Some of the dresses I tried on were size 10, but they just put clips on the back of the dress because it won't close all the way.

Don't be scared!! I am a size 16 bridal size and they had tons of bigger options. If you like one that's smaller they have ways of making it fit on youSmiley smile I had the same fears going into it but if you go to a good salon they make you feels so good about yourself and it's a wonderful experience!

You won't have any problems finding what you want. I would call ahead and tell them what you are looking for and your budget and let the salon do its job.

Even if you can't zip the dress up, they'll clip you into the dress so you can see how it will look. I don't think you have to worry about not fitting into the samples. I tried on plenty of dresses that were too small and too large. The consultants don't expect the dresses to fit you, and they'll help you out.

I wear a street 12 and a bridal 14 to 16. I had no problems, you shouldn't either. You can definitely call the salons to see that they carry the size you need. You should be fine though.

I went to three different bridal stores (David's Bridal being one). For the most part, each had sample gown sizes 4, 8, and 16 in the same dress. You will be 100% fine!

I was very scared as well. I am a plus sized bride and went to a boutique to get my dress. They had so many options and they fit and some were even big on me. Don't worry they are all samples anyway. I even went with a fitted dress! Going in wanting to hide my stomach with a ball gown and ended up with a fit and flare dress so open mind and relax

ETA: because it was a boutique designer dress my bridal size was 3 sizes bigger than my jeans which scared me but don't look at that.

My dress is a size 22. I didn't think I would be able to try anything on but there were actually a lot of options. Just understand that there are some dresses that the designer does not make in larger sizes

I was definitely worried ahead of time too, and I did end up calling salons to ask before making appointments. But it turns out it was never an issue (and I wear between a 16-18 street size, so like a bridal 20). Most of the salons never even brought up my size and found lots of dresses that I could fit into (or at least mostly fit into- some couldn't zip up, but they made it work).

My experience was just like what andrea said....I thought for sure a ballgown to hide everything would be the most flattering, but now I'm on the search for a very fitted dress! I was afraid to go with my bridesmaids because I thought it would be such a depressing experience, but wow....I felt so confident in my body after every appointment. It was pretty cool!

Just remember that bridal gowns might be built differently. I typically wear around a size 6 in dresses, my wedding dress was a size 10. Don't take it to heart if you are in a size that you normally wouldn't be in. Just take in to account how you look and feel.

every shop I went to had samples in sizes 12-14 so they all had to be clipped in the back. I would think most places have samples in sizes that everyone can fit into rather than all small sizes, no?

I wear a street 16 and had no problems anywhere! I think there was maybe one dress I couldn't try on. I was pleasantly surprised everywhere I went! They will do creative clipping and things, but they do that for everyone!

@svetlano o. I'm looking for a flowy a line dress. I'm having a forest wedding and I looking for something ethereal, don't have a clear idea of what exactly that will look like

I really appreciate all the input for everyone. I'm feeling a bit self conscious thinking about trying on dresses but trying to get more excited

I'm a street 14 and was able to try on a ton of dresses, yes there were ones that were too small but they have clips to hold it together. If it would make you feel more comfortable, call and ask but I dont think you will have a problem.

I also must be an anomaly...I'm a street 14 and my wedding dress was a 14 too
