Fear of Falling

Fear of Falling 1
I'm having my wedding in Costa Rica spring 2023. I got my dressed picked out and now I just need shoes. I always said I'd wear flats, but my wedding dress has a slit. Now, I definitely have to wear heels and I'm excited because I know I will look STUNNING in them on my wedding day. I workout all the time and compression pants and sneakers are my jam, so I'm not a heel wearing kinda girl! My wedding venue has 12 steps I have to go down IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY. I'm super anxious about falling. Lukily my train is about chapel length. I plan to practice walking in my shoes before the wedding so I can feel confident in them...maybe dancing around in them (in the basement in them so I don't scuff them up?) I'm just nervous. I know the kick step method. I'd take any advice to help my anxiety.

Your dress is beautiful. I think even with a slit, you can still wear flats. There are so many beautiful ones out there. I would do what is comfortable for you. You want to do everything in your power to eliminate anything that will make you nervous.

I was worried about walking around in heels all day for the fear of falling! What I did was get a pair of heels with a little thicker heel so I had more stability. Good luck!

You can always wear a low heel so you're more comfortable. But definitely wear them around the house to get used to them. For some reason I recently found out that every woman in my life, including myself, breaks in their shoes while cooking if that's something that might work for you. I think it works because you're busy enough thinking about what you're doing that eventually you just walk until it feels natural.

Definitely get a block heel or something that also has a decent platform too it to help you with balance. You can get the look of a beautiful high heel with your foot only being at about a 2-2.5 inch rise. The thicker the heel and platform the more stable you will be. Avoid stilettos if youre concerned or walking on uneven ground. I would also suggest staying away from pointed toe heels or ones with tons of embellishment as they are more likely to catch on the fabric of your dress. If you really love embellishment see if you can get it encased so its smooth.

First of all, your setup is gorgeous Smiley heart

As for the stairs issue, don't let it get into your head and put you off wearing your first choice of high heels. Your wedding is your own day - please don't waste energy focusing on such insecurities! After all, you'll never have to worry about stairs again once you make that 10-second walk!

If you must calm your nerves, try practicing walking down stairs while wearing high heels. Do it several times and find the pace you'd be most comfortable with during the real thing!

First, gorgeous, gorgeous dress. Second, athlete to athlete you can prep your lower legs to get comfortable in heels. In the weeks before, I'd add negative calf raises and jump rope work to get your calves, feet, and ankles ready. You could also write the alphabet with your pointed toes as you watch TV to stretch your ankles. It helps to passively wear heels to work (or cook) more often as you approach the day. Your feet will be tired nonetheless though with a long day, but at least won't walk bow legged or barefoot. Best wishes on finding a supportive shoe that is comfortable for you!
