Favourite dress styles for pear shaped body?

Katie, on January 9, 2016 at 3:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I am 'very' pear, there's a huge difference in my waist and hips (thanks Mum!!)

Just wondering which shapes I should look at and which I should avoid?

It kind of depends if you want to minimize that or flaunt it? To flaunt it I would consider a dropped waist. To hide ballgown, A-line, some sheath dresses.

A-line, Trumpet...but to show it off Mermaid, dropped waist. I'm curvy and want to show it off.

I would suggest a sweetheart neckline to enhance your bust so it balances out your hips. Don't be afraid to show off your curves!

What do you want to accentuate?

I am also pear shaped and wanted flowy and a higher waist, nothing fitted but not full ball. I didnt like them on, tried on a trumpet, all lace and fell in love, lets so sexy and conservative. Have bought one yet but i cant get the fitted out of my mind. Try one of everything!

I'm pear-shaped and went with a mermaid. I liked the way it showed off my curves. I had to order the dress a size larger just so it could fit around my hips, and will have to alter the rest of the dress down one size. Lol!

I would highly recommend trying on at least one dress in all five of the basic styles, ball gown, mermaid, trumpet, sheath, and an A- line.

You may be sure that speaks to you. I knew for sure I wanted a fitted sheath and I took home an aggressive trumpet. Try them all on. See what YOU like.

I got a ball gown however I agree with @JoRocka try on everything!

I was set that a fit and flare would look awful on me and I would look huge. I tried it on and I looked damn good. I ultimately ended up with a ball gown, but that was my overall vision of what I wanted.

JoRocka said it best. Try everything on and you will know what style you like best. I had gone in wanting a ball gown and came out with a fit and flare that I love. You may surprise yourself Smiley winking

It also depends on how tall you are. I thought I'd look awful in a trumpet dress, but DH wanted me to get one, so I tried it on and I ended up liking that look better. Normally I wear a lot of fit and flare, so I thought I'd go for that but somehow I didn't look good in wedding gowns in that style.

According to all the online bridal websites, they suggest an A-line. That being said, A-Line dresses are much harder to find now-a-days (according to my experience). This is what I wanted and ended up with and it really limited my options. Just try on what you like in store and you will find something that you fall in love with.

YES, I know wedding websites and magazines for pear shaped brides to get an A-line or ballgown because it hides the hips. But Kim Kardashian accentuates her curves, right? I went dress shopping today and tried 2 ballgowns, a mermaid and a trumpet. I ended up loving the mermaid, it was actually pretty slimming on me! I may end up getting with the trumpet one though.

I'm a pear, and I decided to flaunt them instead of hide them. This is probably the only time I'm going to be wearing such an extravagant gown and wanted a dress that accentuated my curves!

A line I think is one of the most universally UNflattering gowns of all of them- IMHO- as a friend once told me- you can't make an Elephant look smaller by putting a tent on it- all you do is make it bigger. Might as well make the elephant look good as hell because it's never going to look like anything other than an elephant. Since that day- I've always seen an A line as the universal "tent" that mostly covers rather than accents the body- not all are like that- but generally speaking a more fitted gown is going to look better than the A line. It's just so ... meh.
