Favors?

Lizbeth, on June 17, 2019 at 11:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

Hi everyone!

So I put a deposit of macroons to be my favors for guest

my aunt is providing a dessert table for guests

The marcoons are $350, with the deposit down we have $300 left to pay

I really really want the party favors because i think edible favors are great BUT i cannot seem to justify paying that much. my fh has no idea they cost this much and with the wedding 2 weeks away im thinking that maybe i should just loose my deposit.

When i inquired about the favors i misunderstood the owner and thought they were $180 total, turns out he meant 1.80 for each cookie, so when he told me the price i froze and my aunt just went ahead and left a $50 deposit. It's been months and i havent paid it off bc that price is getting to me.

What would you do as a bride or groom?

What would you think as a guest if you went to a wedding with no favors for guests?

I'm torn

I wouldn't pay $350 for macaroons, but I also think you should have told the vendor that up front instead of 2 weeks before the event.

As a guest, I couldn't care less about favors.

I don't think favors are as popular as they used to be. I feel like you're seeing a lot more weddings without favors so I don't think your guest would mind either way. As far as the price goes, if you really feel as though $350 is too much, cancel the order and give your aunt back the $50 deposit. Since she is already doing desserts, you should be fine.

I agree that you should have told your vendor well before the 2 week mark, but it might not be too late. She might just not give you back your deposit.

Like others said, favors arent at popular anymore and most people dont notice or care.

If you really want to do something, my fiance and I are doing old fashion candy sticks and tying two together with a little thank you tag on it. The sticks are only 20 cents each and we bought bulk buy from oriental trading. Almost 500 of then for a little less than $100. We will have around 200 guests, so we thought this was the best thing for us to do if we wanted favors. Attached is a pic. It's not all of them since I'm still in the process of putting them together.

So I had a whole candy bar at mine as party favors and I spent like maybe $60 bucks on like 15 lbs of candy and I had 240 guests.... At the end of the night I still had like half the candy left. And 15 lbs is an UNDERESTIMATE of the amount of candy i would need too.
Party favors are one of those things that people may end up not doing.

I understand how you feel we wanted to get some for our wedding too but the prices are ridiculous so we chose not to do it So we did kisses candy 🍬 and 95% of our guest left them on the table they were partying some of them were drunk and they left them.so I’m glad I didn’t go and waste all that money.

The vendor told me that he doesn't start making them until the week before

Right, they would be stale if they were made before then. But they likely had to turn down other events to accommodate yours, therefore, causing them to lose money when you bail last minute.

Guest don't care about favors. Not really expected anymore. The guest experience is about good food/drinks and their comfort (not too hot/cold if outdoors). I would give up the $50 deposit and save $300! You're fine.

I wouldn't worry about the favors.
I think it's odd the vendor didn't give you some kind of formal written invoice when you paid the deposit because you wouldn have known then it's $350.
Overall of you're okay losing the deposit then it sounds fine to me

Your guests would not be disappointed for not getting a favor. They will never know that you had thought of doing that. If you really want to do one, go for Hershey kisses in a little bag or something simple like that. They should be a lot cheaper than macaroons

Yes when we inquired about it he just verbally told us, and he said "180" so we just assumed "$180 total" when i left the deposit he said " okay total is $350" I guess i was at fault for not asking more questions but we are so tight on money i can save that $300
