Favors??

Alexis, on October 28, 2020 at 2:22 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

Hello! I am having a destination wedding and was wondering if favors are really necessary since everyone will be traveling (likely flying)? I was hoping to put that money towards something more useful like more hors d'oeuvres or maybe something fun like a photo booth, but if it's "required" then maybe my guests would feel more appreciated with one? Thoughts/opinions??

Favors are certainly not required, regardless of if it's a local wedding or a destination wedding! It's totally fine to skip them, most people won't notice. Often times, favors get left behind anyway.

Everyone agrees that favors always get left behind or thrown away. Even the edibles. Save your money or upgrade something your guests will remember (good food/entertainment), better photos for you, or save it for a rainy day.

You certainly don’t have to. Although it might be a cute idea to do something like funny sleeping masks for people to use on the plane. Just an idea. But you certainly don’t have to. How many people are attending? Usually people don’t spend any more than 1 to 3 dollars per person so if you think about it, if your having a 70 person wedding, the most it would be might come to like 100 bucks or something. But you certainly don’t have to.

I say especially because of having the destination wedding that you shouldn't feel obligated to do favors, as it isn't mandatory to do or have. I also think that it is also very considerate that you are taking into account the fact of some guests might have to fly and the "hassle" it might be for them to take back. No matter how small the favor might be.

No one will miss them if you don’t have them! I haven’t been to many weddings in recent years that included them.

In my opinion, the best option for a destination wedding is to have welcome bags at the hotel block with mostly edible contents instead of favors. My favorite 'favor' from the destination weddings I've attended was a welcome bag with snacks, mini liquors, a hangover kit, and a small bottle of sunscreen (this one was in Mexico). Checking into a hotel room with a bag of snacks waiting for me after a long flight really hit the spot! I definitely wouldn't do any favors if they're not edible though

I am not a big fan of favors but my fh wants them we are doing a photo booth so our favors are magnetic frames that hold the photo booth strip I got them cheap and then got inserts on Etsy with our names and the date also cheap

We are having a domestic destination wedding and are offering welcome bags for our guests to receive when they check into their hotels. We are putting little water bottles, snack bags, and an information insert into each bag. This is easier for us to pull off also because we do not have to travel too far with these items or have TSA restrictions. I agree with PP's, actual favors are hardly ever missed but something to have when they get back to their room is always a hit.

Thanks everyone! Since my guest list is quite large (350!!) I think I will be opting to skip the favors and instead get take home boxes for the desserts so they can leave with something!

Your guests will enjoy you putting the money towards a better experience (ie, upgraded hors d’oeuvres, photo booth) more than they would the favors.
