Favors - individual vs per couple

Colleen, on July 2, 2017 at 5:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

My FH and I make our own wine, and we really want to incorporate this into our favors even though we know it's going to be a little pricey. We are looking at ~175 guests and I'm afraid it's going to get super costly. How can I either stage the bottles or have some sort of sign etc. that tells guests it's one per couple? Or is that rude? Any advice/constructive criticism ideas welcome!

Use them as your escort cards. Put a tag on that says the names, table # and something cute "from our home to yours", "thanks for enjoying our special day with us, here's a bottle for you to enjoy at home "

I'm not good at cute phrases - Pinterest it.

Use half bottles and give everyone a favor.

I like @fitzfora's idea and doing it per couple with the seating cards

I would do either as escort cards or I would have 2 bottles per table with a note to pass around. As long as your venue is ok with outside alcohol.

@muriel I suggested that but FH brought up the fact that it basically doubles our cost because the smaller bottles are virtually the same cost and we'd need twice as many.

@fitzforaking I like that idea! I had planned on just using corks but that's a potential for seating cards

@brieliz the venue is fine with it, I made sure before we put our deposit down, especially since it's not intended to be consumed during the reception but as a favor to take home.

You could ask some bars/restaurants to save their empties for you.

We have Mason jars that will double as favors for our guests. I found them discounted for buying in bulk. They ended up being .71 per favor. That covered cups and favors for everyone!

It is rude. Each person gets their own favor.

It's not rude. Favors aren't mandatory. A bottle of wine for a couple or for an individual without a plus one is perfectly acceptable. I like the escort card idea.

I think one bottle per couple is a lovely favor! Escort cards are a great idea and you could do it in a lot of cool ways.

I have quite a few couples that aren't a "Mr. and Mrs. SoandSo" for the escort cards and I was planning to do individual cards for those people. So I guess you would just want to make sure your cards are large enough to list two full names if necessary instead of having to give individual cards in those cases.

Favors aren't mandatory, so I don't think it's rude. I would just have it on signs or your escort cards Smiley smile

@mustlovecats - do you give 2 separate bottles of wine to a couple that hosts you for dinner?

The married couple will be getting one gift per couple/ family (in most cases) - do you expect separate cards for you and your FH on your wedding day?

Why would it be rude to give a bottle of wine to each couple? If the favor was a glass, soap, or candle (something that was traditionally not shared ) - you much say it's rude. But who drinks a bottle of wine alone? Not many people.

It's definitely cute with the escort cards. FH abd I homebrew, so we originally thought of doing thus with mead, but instead we decided to do a sparkling mead toast instead of champagne. It was way more cost effective for us then giving everyone a little bottle.
