Favors at rehearsal dinner?

Angela-la-la, on March 24, 2016 at 10:50 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

So I'm already planning to give our parents and our attendants gifts.. But I read online that favors at the rehearsal was popular too. Thoughts?

Skip favors altogether. Almost no one takes them so you can spend your money elsewhere. If you want favors, do edibles.

Any rehearsal at all is great. Favors at reception only is more than enough. Maybe heartfelt thank you notes to wedding party and family or personalized thank you speeches at rehearsal if you so desire.

I've never heard of favors at rehearsal dinners and I would skip them because it's just another expense at this point you don't need. They will be happy just being with you before the big day Smiley smile

I've never heard of them and I would skip them. Better to just get ALL of your guests favors at the reception.

I've never heard of favors at rehearsal. I've known rehearsal dinner to be when bride and groom give the BMs and GMs their gifts, or the parents theirs.

I've never heard of it, but if it's out there, it's just another idea created by the wedding industry to suck more money out of you.

I was going to do favors for the rehearsal, it would have been a fun DIY project with wine bottles, but fdil is not doing favors at the wedding. Plus my first few tries didn't turn out as well as I hoped. So no, no favors at the RD for us. But they were in the original plans.

I'm the idiot that did them, lol Smiley smile I have no idea why, I guess I was super bored the day I decided they would be a good idea. Actually, it's Pinterest's fault. I bought the mini champagne bottles (and mini sparkling cider bottles for the little ones), got custom labels made from Etsy, and the cute-sy matching paper straws with a colored stripe spiraled around that were tied to the neck of the bottle with a pretty bow. I only had to make 30 of these. It was the biggest PAIN IN THE ASS ever...mostly because of having to soak and scrub the hell out of the bottles to get the original labels off so I could put on the custom ones. I mean, they were really adorable, but after the first 4, I was over it. RD favors are 100% unnecessary...but I also sent actual RD invites and most say those are unnecessary too Smiley smile

All this gift giving/partying before weddings is almost getting unnecessary...

Unless it's an edible that you REALLY want to do (like, a bottle of sauce from the restaurant you ate at? A collectible wine? Idk), skip it.

For our reception we did chocolate frogs and jelly beans (HP theme!). I think they were enjoyed and a lot were taken, but most weddings I have been to, they are left behind if it's not an edible.

Thank you for all the replies. We are having favors at the wedding. But, after reading the comments, I am totally on board with skipping them for the RD considering almost everyone attending is getting a gift of thanks anyway. Cheers!

Why? Is your RD a 2nd wedding? (Which I totally don't get).

RD should only be for bridal party+sig. others...and even the SO's don't need anything else besides the free meal and drinks they're getting...

Gifts to the BP and parents are plenty.

To be clear. I am not pro-favors at the RD. From reading online I see that some people do it. I just wanted to get the general opinion if they were necessary, as I was not sure. Thank you to all who provided meaningful comments
