Favorite vodka?

Kristin, on April 29, 2018 at 11:38 PM Posted in Planning 0 14
We need to get a gift for our officiant. He's a friend of my dad (and a judge). We were thinking a nice bottle of liquor. My dad says he likes vodka. If he were into scotch I would know what to get, but I have no clue about fancy vodkas. Any suggestions?

I would probably do Grey Goose or Belvedere.

We were just looking online and saw that gray goose has a couple of pricier bottles that are around $100. Maybe one of those?

This is what I was going to suggest. I know a lot of people like Tito's but it's not really "Fancy." We have a lot of local distilleries, so would probably do something local. I also found this which might be helpful

I like Tito’s it’s smooth and better than grey goose, but it isn’t pricey.

I agree with looking around to see if there is a local distillery that makes vodka. That would be something special, if not then I also agree grey goose or belvedere simply for the well known names.

FH's favorite is Ketel One, but I agree with finding a local distillery - it makes it more personal.

I work in a restaurant and we did a side by side tasting with Titos and Kettle One once, Kettle One is wayyyyyy more smooth! I also think honestly when it comes to vodka, because it isn't aged the same way other spirits are, getting a super expensive bottle isn't really worth it. You can buy a high quality vodka that he would certainly enjoy for the same price as the "ultra" high Grey Goose you were referring to. Another idea would be to buy a couple bottles of Kettle One (as an example) and then create some sort of gift basket with cocktail mixers, like a Moscow Mule pack maybe. You could buy Moscow Mule glasses, ginger beer, etc. I would ask your Dad if he knows of any drinks in particular he might enjoy, but honestly I don't know a lot of people that don't like Moscow Mules. You could also buy a bottle of something that is commonly mixed with vodka, like St. Germaine (an elderflower liquor), or dry vermouth.

These are great ideas and I appreciate your advice about the quality/aging process thing! That totally makes sense!

I did remember that an apple orchard near us has has a distillery and makes vodka, so maybe I will get a bottle of that as PPs suggested. And then maybe pair it with a restaurant gift card or something like that.

Not sure if it's too "cheap" since I used to drink it in college Smiley laugh but I always thought Three Olives was pretty smooth.

I love Belvedere and Chopin. If you're looking for a smooth, easy drinking vodka, you definitely want something that has been distilled multiple times, though do your research on brands. Just because it's been distilled five times doesn't mean it's a great vodka. It still needs to be made with quality ingredients.

I'm not sure about fancy vodkas, but if you live in a town/state with some distilleries, it might be cool to get him a local vodka.
