Favorite hotels in Disney?

Kate, on March 11, 2020 at 8:34 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

We're mini-mooning in Disney in January & in search of the best hotels in the area. I am stuck on a Savannah View Room at Animal Kingdom's Lodge but the prices are pretty high and I'm not sure it will end up worth it- considering we will be at the parks a majority of our stay.

What are your favorite Disney Hotels?

My favorite was always the Contemporary resort though that’s pretty pricey as well

We are staying at a moderate.... Port Orleans Riverside when we go on our honeymoon in May. I've heard great things about it and some people said they liked it better than the deluxe

Pop Century, Port Orleans Riverside, Coronado Springs, Polynesian, Beach Club, BoardWalk Inn, Swan & Dolphin are all some of my favorites! (I've stayed in every hotel except the Contemporary)

We love the beach and yacht club! My favor part is that you can easily walk right into Epcot!

I'd honestly base it on where you plan on spending the most time in the parks.

DAKL Savannah room is gorgeous (they're working on room renovations currently) and it is super convenient to Animal Kingdom but not so much Magic Kingdom.
Yacht/Beach, Boardwalk, Swan/Dolphin are all walking distance to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. With the new Skyliner so is Rivieria and Carribbean Beach.
While Contemporary, Grand Floridian and Polynesian are all gorgeous and super convenient with the monorail, I have found their bus service to other parks to be sub par.
We love Wilderness Lodge as it is conveniently located and the cheaper of the deluxe resorts. It also has a boat to Magic Kingdom.
Additionally we LOVE Port Orleans, both French Quarter and Riverside. Both are gorgeous; French Quarter is smaller and therefore more convenient to get to busses and food court but Riverside can feel more secluded. Buses run often and its located basically in the middle of property so you're not on a bus for more than 20 minutes to any park. They also have boat service to Disney Springs.

Our home resort is the Boardwalk. Most of the time you can see the Epcot fireworks from your room if you have a boardwalk view, but a lot of the other rooms are nice and peaceful too. Plus it's within walking distance to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Or if you want to save your feet, the friendship boats are great. Honestly, I almost prefer entering Epcot via World Showcase vs the front of the park.

We stayed at AKL back in 2010, and my dad didn't like the amount of time it took to get to and from the parks and the resort. He also didn't like the fact that they played drums in the lobby, but I did like that. However, they do have really good food at Sanaa, and seeing giraffes from your hotel room is kinda cool.

I can't say a whole lot about Port Orleans Riverside, because the last time we stayed there, it was still known as Dixie Landings, and I was 5.

Saratoga Springs was nice too, and it's super close to Disney Springs

We saved money by staying at the All Star Sports (we are also sports fans), but I've heard wonderful things about the Animal Lodge.

The thing about Disney is that even the cheaper resorts are still very nice, and have shuttles to every Disney property.

We’ve always stayed at the “value” resorts (All Star Music, Movies, POP Century, etc.) and they’re all very nice for a much cheaper price tag. However, I have also stayed at Port Orleans and absolutely loved it. You don’t spend a ton of time in your room anyways unless you’re looking to hang at the resort a lot, which some people do. But if you are doing the parks, I’d probably pick the lower options.

I live in FL and agree that the All-Stars Music, Movies, Sports or Pop Century are good hotels for the budget conscious. You aren't your room that much and you will have the same benefits of the Disney Transportation and early entry, etc. For a fine dining experience you can make reservations at any of the Disney properties. Enjoy your honeymoon.
