Favorite dress code?

Shirley, on February 21, 2021 at 12:13 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
As a guest, what is the dress code you most like to see? What is the one you like least?

For me, I love tropical wedding attire. I absolutely adore a bold floral dress in a breathe-able fabric.
Least favorite? Hands down, black tie. It's a pain to rent a dress, and none of the weddings actually turn out to be black tie. It makes me feel like the bride and groom view me as a,prop for their pictures

Cocktail is my favorite - to me, it's the most simple and easiest to adhere to without looking out of place. Black tie is definitely my least favorite and second would be location specific attire like beach formal. Sorry, but I'll probably still show up in cocktail with some comfortable shoes haha

Favorite: Default semi formal/Sunday Best letting adults dress themselves.

Least favorite: anything where guests are expected/requested/required to wear anything specific. It is considered rude to do so unless the venue is Oscars red carpet caliber and requires certain clothing for entry.

For me it honestly depends on the wedding! I don't really care too much about the attire as long as it's consistent with the type of wedding being held.

We considered having our attire as black tie (we certainly could have since we had all of the black tie components and spent over 6 figures), but we chose to list as "formal" instead because we didn't want guests to feel pressured to rent tuxes and gowns. Many of our guests flew in and that would have been so annoying to transport. Several of our family members were surprised that we chose not to have our attire listed black tie because that is the norm in my family but we felt confident in our choice!

I hate formal/black tie optional or anything that’s even more formal than that. Having to have a floor length gown and a tux is a lot.

I love when it’s semi formal/cocktail. It’s typical wedding attire and no pressure. I can wear things I already own! (I don’t like when I feel obligated to buy something new for one day.)

I hate specified black tie, that turns out to be a much more casual service and meal, but black tie so people are overdressed, for pictures. So rude.
I like dressy daywear for daytime, and formal with either cocktail or full length evening wear and suits, better than more formal tuxes. I do not like casual weddings unless activity specific. If you want to hike out to a meadow or to a cliff with a waterfall, or are having a beach cookput, fine. But bunches of grungy folks in casual wear, no. I think weddings are an occasion for dressing up , people looking their best. And I don't like sexy club wear slit up to here and down to there, clothes, or other things not compatible with a family occasion. 2 years ago I went to a wedding when 30 or so of the guests, mostly groom's friends, looked like they shopped at whores'R us, with perhaps 40 kids, and grandparents and great aunts. Just awful. So I guess mostly I want people dressed for the occasion.

I don't have a preference, but I like breaking etiquette and being told acceptable attire/theme so I don't over/under dress.

I am going to imply beach formal but I don't reallllllly care what anyone wears.

Hands down- black tie sucks! I want to look good but still be comfortable. When asked for our wedding, I’ve told our guests business casual or Sunday best. Just not ripped jeans & a T-shirt!

I love black-tie! I get to dress up so seldom, it feels like a treat! Most of the weddings in my area are formal, and my dad's side of the family all had black-tie affairs (not with the black-tie trappings though, so it was just show up really dressed up)

We did the opposite, we had black-tie trappings (valet, passed h'ours d'ouvres, 3-course plated meal, open bar) but didn't want anyone renting a gown or tux. We didn't specify a dress code, but almost everyone defaulted to dark suits and long dresses (it was in February and it was cold outside).

I guess my least favorite would be like a super casual (jeans and cotton shirt) type look.

I'm the opposite of all of you!

My favorite dress code is black tie, but most people in my family and friend circle have black tie weddings so I'm used to them. It also helps that I own 2 ballgowns and my fiance owns a tux so we never have to rent.

My least favorite dress code would be: either super casual, or a wedding where the couple requests black tie but it's not actually a black tie event.

I'm with you on this lol! The chance to wear a formal evening gown NEVER happens so I would be thrilled. I also hate the super casual look. Bleh 👎🏻 I want to dress up at least a little!

Most weddings I've been to have been semi formal / cocktail

We're from the DC area and family is in Jersey and New York. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding that's not formal attire! Then again I've only been to like 7 weddings. I know some people on this website have been to hundreds!

Haha that's crazy!! I don't even think I've been to 7! 😳 I checked and I can recall 7 weddings actually lol! I've been to 1 courthouse wedding and that was the super casual jeans attire. The rest were all semiformal/cocktail. I've never gotten to go to a formal wedding 🥺 maybe someday lol
