Faux Wedding Cakes?

A., on January 15, 2018 at 7:57 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

Hey all!

Was wondering who has had a faux wedding cake for the traditional cake cutting, and then a sheet cake from a baker to serve to guest? Looking at options.

Was just wondering how you cut the cake to make it look real? Like if you do the cake cutting in the middle of the room, how does it look real to guests? I heard that you hide a piece of cake under a napkin, but wouldn't some guests notice that? Interested in the process .. thanks!

ALSO, BEFORE YOU SAY "i don't like the idea of a faux cake", i already found a company within our bduget who has an amazing price - i am asking what's the PROCESS of cutting a faux cake. thanks.

Someone here had a false cutting cake with a wedge missing so they could hide a piece of cake there for the cutting. Smiley smile

I don't love the idea of a fake cake. If you're decorating tiers of foam you're still going to end up paying a ton since that's what drives up the cost of wedding cakes. I would do a small, 2-tier cake for show and have the sheet cake in the back instead.

I found a company that will do it for a very low price within our budget, but still works with a baker so that the sheet cake will be delicious - also, i asked what the process was of the faux cake cutting - thanks!

It doesn't save much money to have a faux cake. Cake is not that expensive. Decorating it is. If there are any party rentals near you that rent a faux cakes, it might be less expensive. There is usually a wedge missing on the bottom tier that your baker fills to match.

Many couples opt to have a smaller cake on a pedestal cake plate for cutting and sheet cakes for serving.

Most people who do this (common in my area) have one real tier for cutting. Then they resell the faux cake. Yes, it can be a LOT cheaper and I've seen some amazing cakes.

No one has any idea it's fake unless you tell them because they are beautiful. Just make sure the sheet cake is the same flavour as the small cake that you cut.

You can have a cake made from your local grocery store that may be cheaper. They do customized cakes and wedding cakes. Places like Costco, Wal-Mart, public , Kroger and a few oyher places depending on your area.

I would just do a small real cake and then do sheet cake for others. Or cupcakes for others.

I always thought the bottom layer you cut would be real and the rest fake. Perhaps just ask the baker who offered it to you how couples usually do the cake cutting if the whole thing is indeed fake

Just do a small cake to cut and kitchen/sheet cakes. Very common. Much cheaper. Often tastes better because it doesnt take as long to make. What are you going to do with a huge fake wedding cake after the wedding??

Ugh I haven't seen Terri on here for awhile! She had a faux cake and it was gorgeous! There was a small place for real cake to cut out of the 1st tier, I believe and the rest was the Styrofoam.

Top tier, I guess I mean. First kind of made it sound like the bottom. :/

If you found a company that will do it for you for a price you want, they should have some ideas on how to do it. The way I've seen it was that there was a wedge missing from the bottom tier and a real cake slice was there.

When I asked my baker about fake tiers, I was told it would be the same price as others have said because of the decorating cost.

The top tier should be real for you to cut into and the rest fake!
