Father’s Ties

Pang, on March 7, 2020 at 7:24 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
Hi guys. Should Father of bride/groom tie match the wedding party? My father in law thinks it should so people know he’s party of the wedding party. But I feel like it doesn’t matter and should work with whatever color his wife is wearing.

What did you guys do?

I’ve never seen a father match the groomsmen. Usually they wear a complimentary color to the wedding party colors and he’d either match the mother’s dress or if they’re divorced and he remarried, like you said he’d match his current wife. We personally are putting our fathers in completely different colored suits and their ties will complement the colors of our wedding party.

Unless your FH has asked him to be a groomsman, he's not part of the wedding party and doesn't need to match them.

My father matched the groom & groomsmen, and I thought it looked great! I loved what they wore and was completely fine with my dad wanting to wear the same thing. My FIL also, matched the wedding party since he was the best man. I’ve been to several weddings where the FOB/FOG have worn the same thing as the groomsmen.

He's not a part of the wedding party unless he's been asked to be a groomsman or bridesman. He should wear whatever tie he wants that flatters his outfit and that of his date (it does not need to match his date but should compliment what his date is wearing), and it does not need to match the groom and groomsmen at all.

Typically couples purchase flowers for those in the wedding party (bouquets for bridesmaids, boutonnière for groomsmen, boutonnières for FOB/FOG and ring bearers, and corsages for MOB/MOG) so people should know he's a part of the wedding if he has a boutonnière pinned to his lapel. No one except for those "in" the wedding will have boutionnieres so that is how he will be recognizable, not because of the color of his tie.

My dad and FH’s dad are just wearing whatever they feel comfortable in. We’re not coordinating them.

Mine didn’t. My dad wore a tie color that matched my bridal party though because the groomsmen were in green and my bridal party were in pink
