Father’s outfits

Christine , on July 29, 2019 at 1:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Hello,

i was wondering if you have the father’s match the groom/groomsmen. My fiancé will be in Navy tux with a burgundy vest & tie. The groomsmen will be wearing navy tux & vest, and a burgundy tie. My dad will unfortunately be the only father in attendance and I didn’t know exactly what other people did for father’s tuxes? Does he match or no? My colors are navy, burgundy and hints of blush. Thanks in advance.

Mine didn’t— he just picked his own outfit. (Well....with the help of my mom who steered him away from a pair of white dress pants 🤣)

My dad will be in jeans and a nice shirt while my fiancé and the groomsmen will be in a tux. My dad isn’t a tux kinda man.

I told my dad to wear whatever is dressy but not formal. He always dresses well anyway so I'm not worried. But if you want to get him a matching tie I'm sure he would appreciate help matching your colors.

I think it's common for fathers to wear the wedding colors, or even match the groom & groomsmen but there are no hard and fast rules. It's just whatever you and your dad like!

I feel like it’s actually kinda weird for your dad to match your friends honestly, haha. Maybe have him coordinate just so he’s not clashing? But I think putting him in the exact same tux or the exact same colors is a bit strange.

Also, I don’t really think your parents and your bridal party would end up being in any of the same photos as each other anyway.

My FIL just wore dress pants, a black blazer and a white button down shirt so he was pretty neutral!

I just told everyone a grey suit. My dad's been looking for an excuse to buy a new suit so he'll end up matching because he wants to go shopping

Groomsmen wore a black tux and so did my dad. It wasn’t the exact same though. He owned a black tux and our wedding was formal so it just made sense for him to wear the one he had.

I think having your dad in a different tux color would be a nice way to make him stand out!

Groomsmen are wearing charcoal gray tuxes and my dad is wearing a gray suit. My dad will be wearing a black shirt (to match the groomsmen) and a tie & handkerchief that has purple. He owns everything, so he doesn’t even need to buy anything.

My dad wanted to match but you can add something special to show he is different than the rest. He is going to have one of the stuffed animals I got him from a mcdonalds meal when I was 6 in his top pocket with some flowers. Make it your own Smiley smile

FH's dad is a groomsman so of course he matches, but my dad didn't want to match. He is wearing a navy suit while the groomsmen are in grey slacks and white button ups with black suspenders.

We had black tie optional so the groomsmen were in black tuxes with simple white shirts and black ties. My dad and FIL both wore a black tux and picked a tie to coordinate with the respective moms' dresses

My dads were initially wearing just a button down and dress slacks but now that I got all 3 of the fathers cufflinks, I told them they should wear a jacket. My stepdad, for instance, is wearing a navy and powder blue pinstripe jacket with light blue button down and navy dress pants. (my groom and I have his and hers colors-mine is navy blue.) I havent given a lot of thought to the other 2 dads past telling them the colors and recommending a jacket. I have no worry that they will be misconstrued as groomsmen since the groomsmen will be in kilts.

All of that said, it isn't required that they match though you do want them to be similar in how formal they are which means you might want to put him in a navy or grey tux (black would clash in pics with the navy) with a blush tie or you could switch it up with a bow tie of blush or burgundy. Different enough to not be thought a groomsman but similar enough that he doesnt look completely mismatched in pictures.
