Father/Daughter songs?

Butterfly, on January 31, 2014 at 2:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

What is everyone choosing as a father/daughter song?? I'm having a tough time because there are so many I love but one that I keep going back to is by Krystal Keith -Daddy dance with me. I get all teary eyed with it though, not sure I could make it through the dance without crying Smiley sad

I've known since I was in middle school that my father and I would dance to Fly me to the Moon. It's "our song" if a father and daughter can have a song...

I let my dad pick. He chose "Then They Do" by Trace Adkins.

I chose "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler for my dad and me. I will probably be fighting back tears as I try really really hard not to cry in public...

"Butterfly kisses" by Bob Carlisle. I've had it picked out since I was like 9 years old.

Paris, I like the idea of letting your dad pick, FH has no clue what song he wants for his mom and him so we'll probably end up just letting her pick.

My dad wants to do something FUN! Smiley laugh (I was shocked that he mentioned wanting to take dance lessons for it!) So I was thinking about using "Say Hey" by Michael Franti, or maybe a medley of fun songs. Before he brought that up, I was thinking "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" by Israel Kamakawiwoʻole, but I just know I'd end up bawling my eyes out if we used that one.

My dad always told me he had the song picked out since the day I was born, but never told me what it was until I heard it at the wedding:

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

My dad doesn't want to know the song! He wants to be surprised because it will make it that much more special to him to hear what I picked. So I went with "I Loved Her First" by Heartland

I asked my dad to pick thinking he would for sure choose "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw since we'd listened to it many times while he drove me back to university. But instead he chose Father and Daughter by Paul Simon, a song I'd never even heard and we had never listened too. I was really disappointed since I thought we had a connection to that song and it is so up there in my memories with him. I'm not sure why he chose the Paul Simon one, I think maybe he just doesn't want to get emotional so he picked a more up beat song? I don't know, but I really don't like the tempo or the song as a whole, not what I envisioned at all.

So I guess what I'm saying is that if you want your dad to pick the song don't go in with any expectations..

    Butterfly-

The most important thing is that the song has an emotional connection between you and your dad. If that song checks those boxes, then go with that one!

Ask him what he visualizes though. You'd be surprised how many fathers dream about that moment as well.

If you have a couple of songs, your DJ can mix them seamlessly. My favorite memory of one like that was "Butterfly Kisses", which the bride picked, and a few moments of "In Da Club" which her dad surprised her with midway through. Don't worry what everyone else thinks- just what makes you and your dad most happy!

Congrats to everyone (and everyone's dad)!

I let my dad pick. Now he won't tell me. But apparently it's going to be a mini-event. It's cool. I bought handkerchiefs.

My father/daughter song will be "I loved her first" by Heartland. I remember being in the car with my dad the first time we heard it and he started tearing and from that moment on we knew that would be our song.

Our true song is "I wanna rock n roll all night (and party every day)" KISS

so I might cut the mushy "I loved you first" song by heartland into KISS

ozzy's "changes" is also a good song that he wrote for his daughter's wedding cuz we're rockers but I can't find a good version of it.

    Hi Butterfly,

You might try "www.AlwaysDaddy.com"--nice song, elegant but simple. You can listen to a snippet there.

Sometimes Dads don't want to stay out on the floor too long...this song is perfect, it's only 2 min and 7 sec. long Smiley smile

I let my dad pick, and he picked "Young and Innocent Days" by the Kinks - not something I ever would have thought of myself, but he seems pretty excited about it.

Landslide....Smashing Pumpkins version. My parents aren't any type of inspiration to me, but I am a daddy's girl (my FH is practically a version of my dad in a lot of ways)
