Father/daughter dance=awkward

Ally, on March 7, 2019 at 5:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 7
Ok so here lol... I quite honestly understand it and owe it to my dad. He out out a lot of money for my wedding and raised me well enough for me to never mess up my life lol, that being said we are not even close to affectionate with each other. My dad is a tough guy... a man of little to no words and has more a negative attitude than anything else lol. I dont even know where to begin with this dance. We arent practicing dances and if we do kill be awkward squared. Lol. How the heck does this work??

I've seen plenty of tough, cowboy fathers (plenty in my family) do a father daughter dance. I'd pick a shorter song and just do a basic slow dance, so it's super easy! The song doesn't have to be super emotional either.

Agree with PP, can be a nice slow song that’s not emotional, or something a little upbeat or whatever.
Did your dad say he wanted to do a dance? It’s not mandatory so you can skip it if you want. FH and I are not doing parent dances and only doing a first dance with each other, but we really don’t like dancing hahaha.

I’ve given my dad a list of songs and asked for his feedback: they range from cheesy to sweet to just fun. l'm also planning to invite other fathers and daughters go join us on the dance floor after about a minute.

Just keep the song short and sweet— a dj can make an abbreviated version or find a good spot to cut it. And...just sway. It’s rare that there’s much dancing here haha, a lot of us have dads kind of like this. I have a great relationship with my dad but, we certainly aren’t sappy, and we both usually shy away from the sentimental stuff. I chose a song I knew he’d love and went up and truly really just did the slight sway back and forth around the dance floor— TRADE SECRET: we didn’t really “dance” and didn’t focus on that part— we actually just TALKED the whole time. We just had a nice little one on one conversation , little story about the day, asked him about some stuff from the morning, told him a little about getting ready and a story from the end of the welcome party the night before. Totally regular every day conversation— it was perfect.
(Then I was over it and started doing a silly dance and convinced him to join me haha)

My dad and I don't really talk, we definitely aren't close. He's never been very involved with my life even though we lived in the same house for 16.5 years and my parents are married. I don't want to dance with him but I also don't want to cause a scene or have people asking why didn't we dance. We are dancing at the same time as FH and his mom... she helped pick a song that wasn't overly sappy and is appropriate for both father/daughter and mother/son (Rascal Flats - My Wish)
