Father/Daughter Dance

Kelly, on June 19, 2016 at 4:01 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Why is it SO difficult to find a song for the father/daughter dance that is not cheesy/mushy/lovey dovey or country? I've spent hours searching the internet and still can't find any that I (or my dad) would like. I've asked him to pick a song but he doesn't know what to choose either...

I just picked a song my dad likes but a version I like.

We are dancing to Elton Johns your song but the moulin Rouge soundtrack version.

I don't think the song has to mention father and daughter. We both like the song

I know what you mean... I actually didn't want a mushy song, either. Is there any song that you can both relate to at any point? Something that might be special to you both? I'm going with Barry White- My First, My Last, My Everything. It's super upbeat! One morning my dad was driving me to school and telling me there's no one like me, and that there's no way God could have made 2 of me. At the time I thought he was being funny saying the world couldn't handle 2 of me because I was such a pain in the butt, but then he turned on this song on his cassette player and the memory stuck with me since. So instead of a mushy song, I'm going with this one because it's a memory for us!

My dad have a more fun-loving relationship than super sappy, so this was hard for me. We ended up picking My Girl, because it was upbeat and not too sappy.

@ellie....omg that is so sweet. UGH I love dads!

My dad (and mom) both love Elton John. His music was always played in the car growing up and he has a special place in my family (lol).

Anyways so we are dancing to Tiny Dancer!

Maybe pick an artist that is special to your dad or to both of you, and pick a song that's good for dancing?

We danced to a slowed down version of Brown Eyed Girl. Look for covers on YouTube. Most Dj companies can make it mp3 and burn it to a cd.

This was we had a song that meant a lot to us and wasn't cliche.

I remember listening to a lot of REM, U2 and Police songs with my dad when I was younger but I can't seem to find any that would be good for a father/daughter dance. I like Tom Petty but I had never heard his "Wildflower" song until now. I do like the idea of "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls... it's tough b/c we are not super close. I'm 32 and he is not exactly "giving me away." He was basically homeless for a bit in my 20's and lived with me in my living room for a while so I kind of feel like I have been the one taking care of him and not the other way around. He's not doing anything for the wedding but showing up really. It makes it tough to pick a song when so many songs are geared towards letting your daughter go... thank you for all your input. I'm glad I'm not the only one having a tough time finding something!
