Father/daughter dance opinion

Jessica, on November 15, 2021 at 10:19 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
So I’m trying to figure out father/daughter dance songs and I think I know which one I want to choose because it’s extremely sentimental, but not necessarily something everyone would understand.

My parents had a huge christening party for my when I was a baby, and I recently found a video from it - it was basically like a wedding reception. And at one point in the video, my dad is the only one on the dance floor and he’s holding me, dancing to “Ballerina Girl” by Lionel Richie. So I’m thinking this is the song, but even though he wrote it for his daughter, it could easily be interpreted as being about a romantic relationship. So I’m worried not everyone will get it. And while the moment is about me and my dad, I don’t want people getting any weird vibes from it or anything since not everyone will know the meaning behind why I chose it.
My second choice is “Always be your baby” by Natalie Grant. But to be honest, I think I’ll bawl my eyes out the whole time, so I might have to find a third option lol.
But just wanted to get some thoughts on doing out of the ordinary father/daughter dance songs, or songs that meant something to you and your dad but no one else understood.

To be honest, guests don’t pay attention to lyrics of spotlight dances unless they are jarringly inappropriate. Don’t overthink it. Your original choice is great.

Thank you! That’s kind of how I felt about it too judging by my experience at previous weddings, but you think about things much differently (aka overthink) when you’re planning your own 😊

I think your original option is great! No one will really pay attention they are just gonna be focused on the sweet moment you are having with your dad!

Go with your original option!! Smiley smile As a guest at other weddings I always just payed attention to the moment rather than the lyrics of the song lol. The reason being is because usually someone is always crying or both of them are. And it's in that moment that makes it so special and emotional.

I completely agree! And he did write the song for his daughter Nicole, so I think it totally works!!

That will be such a special bookend moment! 💖
