Father/Dance Dance Thanking Him

Pete_the_Petey, on June 15, 2009 at 10:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

I'm looking for a father/daughter dance song but instead of it focusing on "his little girl" I'd rather it be kind of a tribute to him. My dad and I are very close, and he's been such a great influence in my life, I'd rather the song thank him.

A friend of mine danced to "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion, so maybe something with that same mindset. I was kind of thinking (maybe) "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin or "Ain't That Love" by Ray Charles.

I'm all about stuff that's not traditional, so the more obscure or unused the song is the better. I'm not big on super cheesy songs, but I guess this is an area where it can't be avoided, right? lol.

So . . . any thoughts? Anything at all would be hugely appreciated Smiley smile

Thanks so very, very much everyone!

Well I'm planning on dancing with my father to Through The Years by Kenny Rogers... here are the lyrics and you'll see why I'm dancing to it with him.

cant remember when you werent there

When I didnt care for anyone but you

I swear weve been through everything there is

    Cant imagine anything weve missed

Cant imagine anything the two of us cant do

Through the year, youve never let me down

You turned my life around, the sweetest days Ive found

Ive found with you ... through the years

Ive never been afraid, Ive loved the life weve made

And Im so glad Ive stayed, right here with you

    Through the years

I cant remember what I used to do

Who I trusted whom, I listened to before

I swear youve taught me everything I know

    Cant imagine needing someone so

But through the years it seems to me

I need you more and more

Through the years, through all the good and bad

I knew how much we had, Ive always been so glad

To be with you ... through the years

As long as its okay, Ill stay with you

    Through the years

Through the years, when everything went wrong

Together we were strong, I know that I belonged

Right here with you ... through the years

I never had a doubt, wed always work things out

Ive learned what loves about, by loving you

    Through the years

Through the years, youve never let me down

Youve turned my life around, the sweetest days Ive found

Ive found with you ... through the years

Its better everyday, youve kissed my tears away

As long as its okay, Ill stay with you

    Through the years!

    (hope this helps! good luck!)

I love this idea! I picked "You Raise Me Up" originally by Josh Groban. I am not a fan of his so I found a cover of it. Actually by a group called Celtic Woman, my dad is a big fan. He is expecting a daddy's little girl song, I think he will be really surprised!

I also like the song "You Gotta Friend" James Taylor. Good luck!! Let us know what you pick

I didn't mean that! It isn't "You Got A Friend" its the one that says "Just call, out my name, and you know wherever I am ..." I can't find the title becaue I'm at work and all the access keeps getting blocked!

That is exactly what I wanted for my dad- he's definately not a country guy either so none of those cutsy father-daughter songs would work. Christina Aguilar's I turn to you is what we finally decided on b/c he likes her voice and b/c he's may main supporter throughout the years. Other songs I considered included Hero by Mariah Carey, Wind Beneath my wings by bette midler, celion dion's because you love me, and jessica simpson actually has a song about her father (can't remember the name b/c I'm not a big fan of her but i did hear the song and thought it was pretty good). Good luck!

My father died 6 or 7 years ago so I am dancing with my step dad. I let him choose the song because it was important to him. He chose "learned from you" by Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus. It fit our relationship perfectly so, I am really excited about it.

Just a thought. Hope it helps.

I also had my dad pick. It didn't take him but a few seconds to pick his song! He choose I loved her first by Heartland.

It's makes me cry when I hear it!!
