Father of the groom match father of the bride?

Taylor, on February 20, 2017 at 8:38 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5

My dad is walking me down the isle so instead of matching his wife he will match me and wear gold. My fmil says that all the dads/granddads should wear gold as well HOWEVER my fmil wants to match her husband and wants to wear gold which I'm not a fan of, gold is my accent color and if everyone says "I want to match my husband" all the moms/grandmother's will be in gold. I was just going to have my dad in gold bc his role in the wedding party and everything is more important. I'm trying really hard not to be a bridzilla so I'm bit ting my tongue but I really don't feel like I want them all in gold. My fmil says it's slap to the face to my ffil bc he should be just as important as my dad bc he is my s2bh father. Should I just leave it be and let everyone wear gold or put my foot down and say only my dad in gold?

My dad and ffil are both wearing the same thing. He just has a special boutonniere to make him stand out.

You could have your dad/grandads match you, then have FFIL and grandads wear the same color (I'm assuming you're talking color of ties?). That way, it's not "importance" and not everyone is in gold

My dad is not wearing the same colour tie as the wedding party, he will be matching my mom. However, the men will be given buttonholes to show their "importance" as family.

ETA: is the issue the colour of the tie, or the issue of the women wearing gold? Can you maybe ask the moms to not wear gold, but to wear a colour that complements gold?

The issue is, if the men wear gold the women will all wear gold and instead of gold being an accent colour it's becomes a main colour. My fmil wants to match and probably won't be excited about wearing an off gold colour and not mat ching 100%. Orginally she was wearing light bkue but when she heard my dad was in gold to match me she said her husband (my H2B step dad) and all the men should wear gold so they all match since they are all important men.

Put your foot down! It's your wedding, not hers. If it's that big of a deal to her, do as one of the previous ladies suggested and ask that she help pick a color that complements the gold but isn't one of your wedding colors. Or even have a gold ribbon with corsages for the ladies to wear and they wear the colors that they intended to (dress wise) and the men could have cuff links or something else subtle. That way, the gold remains accent and not a "main" color.
