Following. I had the same question !

My groom and GM were in grey. Our dads wore black tuxes. My dad wore a tie that matched my mom’s dress and I can’t remember what FIL wore.

We aren’t doing suits but imo the fob is part of the wedding party (to an extent) if he is walking the bride down the aisle. My FH’s groomsmen are wearing dark blue jeans and red button ups so my dad will be in that with a chocolate brown vest and his hat he loves. This way he coordinates but stands out. FH will be in a white shirt with a brown vest and a red western scarf.

That's going to be one saucy outfit. He might want to reconsider and wear pants.

Our dads are wearing what they want. My dad is renting a traditional tux, since he's essentially the host of the event. (GM are wearing tuxes too, in light gray.) FFIL is going to buy a suit. He didn't say what color.

The dads are going to be in the same color as the GM just a slightly different shade. Their vest will match the BM colors I let them choose and they wanted to match the party, fine with me!

For us..

We did burgundy for M&FOB

Navy for M&FOG

They wanted colors to go off of even though we told them NUMEROUS times they could wear ANYTHING. They wanted to compliment photos, which I understand knowing the 4 of them

I'd have them wear something that matches well for pictures, but maybe not 100% matching. The same tie color would be a nice touch, and then a suit color that blends well with grey. But I think if you wanted him in a navy suit, I would just get him a different tie that still matches.

DH and GM wore grey tuxes with grey vests and mint bow ties. I told my dad that and he opted to get the same tux, a black vest, and a long mint tie. DH’s stepfather is a really casual guy and wore a white dress shirt with the same tie as my dad.

Our dads wore different color suits but the same shirt and tie.

FH, best man and FOG will all be wearing the same black tux. FH will be wearing a pink bow tie to match me. Best man will wear a blue tie to match the MOH. FOG will be wearing a black & silver tie. All the men look very sharp.

So, my groomsmen are wearing charcoal suits with lilac vests/ties. My FH is wearing a charcoal vest with a silver vest/tie. I was thinking of letting my dad wear a darker color purple (but not too dark) tie with a charcoal suit. My BMs are wearing lilac dresses, but their bouquets will have a darker purple in them, so I figured that would match nicely.

In your case, he could wear the same color suit and then a slightly different colored tie that's darker/lighter than the GMs. Just my OCD though!
