Father Daughter Dance... Two Dads?

Fatima, on October 10, 2011 at 11:27 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

How did you guys resolve this? I didnt want to be cheesey and dance with both of them at once, and then i also find it awkward if we say "Will -name of bio dad- step forward for the father daughter dance!" then the next song: "Will -name of stepdad- step forward for the father daughter dance!-"

The "most common" way to handle this is to start your father/daughter song with your biological father, and then having your step father "tap him on the shoulder" to cut in about halfway through the song.

This is, of course, assuming a good relationship with both. No need to announce step dad. Most people will know what's going on.

I dont know my bio father that well (havent seen him in a LONG time!) I was going to go with "the chicken dance" (we used to go to hockey games when i was a little girl, and we loved this), then do a country song with my stepdad.

Doing the two songs sounds like fun... it would definitely be memorable. My only concern then is is that doing 2 songs would really slow down your reception.

I'm choosing 2 songs and having the DJ blend 2 songs (similar to a mix) 1st song will stop mid way thru and 2nd song blend right in... they both will know ahead of time how its planned, dance with bio Dad 1st and step Dad 2nd..... I really feel the song should fit the relationship. Doing it this way will only be an extra minute in a half for the 1st song....

My MOH, when she got married had this same problem. so when she danced with her bio dad, the rest of us bridesmaids got her stepdad and we danced with him.

Im close with both my dads so I'm in the same boat. I'm doing bio first since I'm doing bio first I am using my and my step dads song. I'm not saying names just its time for the dad dance. I'm also going to write them both a letter for them to have so they both know how much they mean to me.

My friend did two songs, one for her bio dad and one for her step-dad. She didn't do the entire song either, just about 30-45 seconds of each one to keep it short and sweet.
