Father Daughter Dance? Songs?

Sabrina, on July 20, 2013 at 11:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Hi All,

I know there is probably a thread somewhere on here but I can't find one on this topic. I am in the final stretch of my wedding plans and need to select the song list for special components of the wedding/reception. I am stuck on a song for father daughter dance. Does this dance have to happen? Both my father and I are shy. What are some good and short song choices?

You can always have your DJ cut it a bit short. Our was saying that they usually do a portion of it so it doesn't drag on Smiley smile

The dance doesn't HAVE to happen, it can be simple, and it's a really sweet memory you both may savor for a really long time. Try to be open to embracing it. Here's a list of some songs, (you can easily google whatever you want and ta da!) http://www.music2movies.org/top-father-daughter-songs-2013-list/

I asked my dad to pick the song, something that was significant to him.

You can have it be the first "everyone join them on the dance floor" song!

Doesn't have to happen, but I decided I would really treasure the moment of dancing with my father, like I did when I was a little girl. he picked the song, which made it extra special as well. maybe try asking for his input (my dad is super shy and has extreme anxiety about being around people, so much so that he can't hold a job, but it's still super excited about this dance so make sure you communicate with him before calling it off).

You can always have all the other fathers and daughters join you about half-way through.

My dad and myself danced to September by earth wind and fire. Girl it was like a dance off I think I almost had to kick him off the floor. I think maybe let him pick the song so he's comfortable.

@courtney that is hilarious! I am going to use isn't she lovely,by Stevie Wonder. It's a little upbeat so we won't be standing there swaying back and forth forever.

We decided to combine the mother/son with the father/daughter (or brother/sister in my case) since my FH isn't too comfortable on the dance floor and neither is my brother.

We're planning to have FH and his mom join us half-way through. Then my Mom and her dad, etc etc. Basically kicking off the dancing.

No idea what our song is gonna be though.

Courtney I love the thought of using "September"! It is upbeat and lighter than the song I was thinking of using-Landslide by Fleetwood Mac...which I can't listen to without crying. It also helps that I'm a huge Earth Wind and Fire fan-my daughter danced with them for a benefit concert.

Like some of the other ladies FH and I will have a combined Father/Daughter & Mother/Son dance. We chose Never Alone by Lady Antebellum. FH is also shy so our DJ recommended dancing alone for 1.5 minutes and then asking others to join the dance floor. So in this case parents and children present would dance together.
