Father Daughter Dance Song

Kristine, on September 3, 2014 at 3:28 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

For years, I planned on dancing to Stevie Nicks' Landslide with my dad on our wedding day - when I went through my teenie bopper, crappy music phase, he would always crank this up on the radio and say "you hear this, this is real music!!" so it has a particularly special place in our hearts. Although Dad has threatened to ask the DJ to play the Godfather waltz (long story)

So I ask the Wedding Wire ladies - what are you dancing to with your dad/mom/kids/brothers and why is the song special to you?

He doesn't know it yet, it'll be "If I had **** Dollars" by the Barenaked Ladies. We always danced to that in the kitchen together while I was growing up, then when I was a teenager any time it came on the radio he'd blast it loud so I could hear it from my room. It wasn't until a year or so ago I realized the words actually summarize our relationship really well. We aren't materialistic but he'd do anything for me. I'm excited Smiley smile

I let my dad pick what song he wanted to dance to. He chose "I Loved Her First" by Heartland.

I think my dad picked "Daddy's Angel" by T Carter Music. He found it on Youtube as I asked him to pick a country song (he loves it, I don't listen to it) and I wouldn't let him pick "I Loved Her First" because that song makes me BAWL.

Cinderella by steven curtis chapman.... it's special to me because when I was a kid (like 10 years old) I started getting embarrassed about dancing with my dad in public, and we went to a lot of functions/small town get togethers. So now it's kind of like, making up for all the times I wouldn't dance with him (at least in my mind)

Kristine, that's so funny! I'm going to dance with my dad to that song, too. I think my fiance will dance with his mom to it as well at the same time.

My dad was campaigning hard for "Sunny Days" (theme song from Sesame Street) bc I would belt it out in church as a toddler. My mom mixed that so apparently he's moved on to "The Circle of Life" from The Lion King. It's possible but also in the running is Tim McGraw's "My Little Girl." It's a mystery what we'll dance to!

Ordinary World by Duran Duran...sometimes I hear it and think "Um, this is a little sexy-sounding and SAD to be a father/daughter dance" but my dad took me to my first concert- Duran Duran- in 2005. So for us it has a meaning.

An acoustic version of My Hero by the Foo Fighters. Me and my sister have always said our dad is like Superman - he can do anything, make anything, fix anything. This song is perfect for us Smiley smile

My Dad picked the song. I wanted Landslide but he didn't pick it! Alas...We're doing the first 30 seconds of "you are my sunshine" by frank Sinatra, then going into "you are the sunshine of my life" by Stevie wonder.

I'm dancing with my sister. Our dad passed away earlier this year & she said she wants me to still do the dance to honor or dad. I was planning on having Changes by Kelly & Ozzy Osbourne, but Angie on WW gave me a great suggestion. Dance With My Father Again. There's different singers who have done this song (Celine Dion, Kelly Coffey & Luther Vandros). I just need to choose which singer.
