Father daughter dance song, when your not close with your father?

My dad and I have had a real touch and go relationship my whole life. He's been in and out, mainly because he works off and lives 4 hours away. So we really don't have that strong of a bond. Since I've gotten older we've started talking a lot more. I want to keep to tradition and have the father daughter dance, I don't want anything that is going to seem fake because of the lyrics, but I can't decide on a song. I have no idea what direction to go with this. Has anyone else had this problem? HELP!!!

If you insist, you can pick ANY song you like.

If there is a song with a strong, personal association, go with that first. One of my all-time favorites was when the bride had me play her dad's favorite song, "Elvira" by the Oakridge boys.

We are not close....it would really awkward for us to dance together for that reason. So we are not doing it. Easy enough.

We've gotten closer over the past few years, I'm wondering if anyone knows any songs that could be used. Instead of all those loveydovey touchy father daughter songs lol. I want to have the father daughter dance!

I would give anything to have been able to dance with my father. He passed a few months before the big day ( I got legally married early in the hospital so he could see it and be there). Ask him his favorite song or if he has a suggestion.

Me and my dad arnt that close either. FH is always giving me song ideas for him and I'm like uh no that's nothing like our relationship. When I was younger he loved playing "butterfly kisses" and saying it was our song. I'm either going to just pick it. Or ask him what he would like. But I know that's probly the song he would pick. I think I might just pick it and surprise him.

Any song 'father/daughter' song would be fine - I don't think anyone is going to assume anything just because you had a traditional dance with your dad at your wedding! You can also talk to your DJ about editing a song down so that it doesn't last as long, if you'd like.

We are dancing to "Your Song" by Elton John since my dad loves Sir Elton. I don't think it's overly sappy. Maybe something like that?

Artie Shaw "Dancing in the Dark". I haven't heard the version with lyrics, but we are dancing to the one without.
