Father daughter dance advice

Brianna, on July 25, 2014 at 4:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

So I have thought of a few different songs that we could do for a father daughter dance but I haven't LOVED any of them. There is one song that I really like but I think it is actually meant to be about a love story. The song I was thinking was I Don't Dance by Lee Brice. Any one who has heard it do you think people would think it is too lovey for a father daughter song? The first time I heard it I immediately thought of my dad because he was really hesitant of the father daughter dance and is basically only doing it because it means so much to me. I guess I'm just wanting an outsiders opinion.

I think that could be a father-daughter dance without trouble. I imagine it was meant for a couple's dance, but it's generic enough I think you'll be fine--particularly if people know that your dad is just doing it for you.

Anyone that knows my dad knows that he hates attention and will be completely miserable out there, but he doesn't want to miss out on the experience, I guess that's kinda what I got from the song and my way of justifying it. I just don't want people thinking wow thats odd.

I never thought about that. That's an awesome idea! did you just tell your DJ and he did it for you or did you have to actually cut it yourself?

I love that song!!! I could steal it because neither my dad or I are big dancers (unless I drink too much then I THINK I can dance lol) my dad has his "token" dances with my mum when they go out

I love that song. We are planning on dancing to Daddy With Me by Krytal Keith (Toby's daughter). It a very slow song and will be fine with just swaying back and forth. My challenge is my dad thinks he sins better dancer and he has his own rhythm so I don't want him stepping all over me and the dress.

My dad's a pretty bad dancer (I think - I don't think I've ever seen him dance because he simply won't!) & won't ever go dancing with my mom...she wants to so bad! It's sad haha. But we're in the same situation as you I think...I was gonna do something slow, and I didn't know if he would end up liking it or not or if it'd be awkward trying to dance with him, but i knew he'd do it because it's expected of him! Smiley winking

Then my mom had this great idea to do an upbeat song from one of my family's favorite bands that we have seen together in concert! "Volare" by the Gipsy Kings...it's their version of the popular Italian song (we're italian, fits perfect!) So we'll just have fun and dance, he can try and twirl me and it'll be clumsy but that's okay! Smiley smile We're gonna have so much fun up there looking like idiots dancing to our favorite band! Maybe you could do something similar, with a band you guys like? & just go up and have fun!

My dad passed away a few months ago. My sister (and MOH) has already told me that she's going to dance with me for the father-daughter dance.

The song I had already picked was Changes by Kelly & Ozzy Osbourne.

FH and I are actually using I Don't Dance as our first dance song. But I think it could be a father daughter dance and none of your guests would think twice. I was also thinking you should shorten the song. You can do this yourself with programs on your computer (I think windows media player may work) of ask your DJ to fade it out.

I think that song would be fine but another thought for you to consider. I've been married once before and wasn't going to do father daughter dance because my FH has lost his mom a few years ago and I didn't want to make it awkward for him not having the dance with his mom so I decided to get the best of both worlds. Will have because you loved me as the song playing, start dancing with my father than .. my fh will dance with me half way through and my mother and father will dance along with his father and g/f .. think it is perfect to get the best of both worlds Smiley smile

The song I've chosen is Miss You In a Heartbeat by Def Leppard. There is a line that is kinda too romantic, but I have someone editing it out. My dad and I always bonded over our love for Def Leppard, so I always knew that my father/daughter dance had to be one of theirs. And this song fits because when I first moved out of my parents' house, my mom told me that dad missed me so much he would find any opportunity to talk to me or meet up with me to hang out. And now that I have another Main Guy in my life, I feel like this song is more "us" than ever.
