Fat arms and a strapless dress

Maggie, on August 19, 2019 at 7:36 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18
Already married ladies, and people getting married soon. How did you combat the self esteem issue of having chunky arms and a strapless dress? I have a veil that would probably cover the most concerning parts and of course I am going to try to tone everything up in time, but does anyone have any other tricks to combat the arm awareness?

Getting married next month, also hate my arms. I’m not confident in full strapless so I’m going to have sheer off the shoulder straps added just to cover my upper arms.
Bottom line guests won’t care. You’ll be a beautiful bride no matter what! But it’s about how YOU feel. Will you constantly be self conscious of your arms all night or will you be able to forget about it and have fun? I know I’d be worrying so that’s why I’m doing the straps.

Understand people won't be focused on the hang ups you have. Most will be looking at your beautiful dress and your beaming smile. My future step daughter got married and was concerned about sunburn scars on her shoulders. No one noticed except her. You look beautiful in your dress, try and relax about the arms.

I hate my arms too 😝 but, you look beautiful and I love your dress!!

No tips, but as other have said, nobody is gonna care. I tend to think that people don’t nitpick us as much as we do anyway 😄😄

Dress twins! You look absolutely beautiful and i didn’t even notice your arms and had to recheck what this post was even asking lol. But I had cap sleeves added to my dress. Honestly like pp said though no one will even be thinking that.

I feel this so hard! I'm also uncomfortable with my flab-tastic arms but I'm wearing an asymmetrical neckline. I'm doing my best to tone up and accept that my fiance is marrying me because he loves me not because I have Cross Fit arms (cuz I DON'T lol)

That dress is perfect to add draped tulle off-the-shoulder sleeves! Ask your seamstress.

Two ideas...I honestly don’t know much about it but I’ve heard hemorrhoid cream can lessen the appearance of cellulite in your body. Some of my friends use it for events. Also, I think s good tan makes everything look better! I am self conscious about my arms too and I’ve been trying to lift light weights 3 times a week.

First of all, you look absolutely stunning and your dress is beautiful! I was a plus sized, middle-aged bride when I got married a year ago so not only did I have chunky arms, they were chunky and saggy! But I loved my dress and felt like a princess in it! It had a sweetheart neckline and little cap sleeves (more like thick straps) on my shoulders. I blew my husband away and you can hear people’s reaction on the video! No one was looking at my arms or my thick waist! They saw someone extremely in love and beyond happy! Until my wedding I had been so critical of all my imperfections but that day made me realize I’m beautiful inside and out, and you are too! Please don’t let our society’s messages of perfection take away from this happy time! Whether you add tulle off-the-shoulder sleeves or go strapless, you’re going to rock that gown!!!!

Hey maggie, love your dress! i also ended up picking out a strapless dress even though in my mind i've always wanted cap sleeves (i also want to cover up my arms). however, its apparently easy to add sleeves to strapless dresses! ask your seamstress!

I have this same issue: chunky arms and a strapless dress. I'm going to be talking to a seamstress about my alterations. I would like to add those little straps (I forget what they are called), that look loose, off the shoulder. Like if your dress had straps and they just fall down off the shoulders. Even though they won't really "cover" my chunky arms, it will break up the sea of fat that is my upper arms. I hope. Anyway, I like the way it looks, so I'm going to check it out. That's a really beautiful dress!!

Well here you go! My arms in all their glory at alternations lol I can definitely chime in because I struggled with the same thing. In the end I had straps added for bust support but my arms are still going to be showing.
Hun it’s all about confidence. If you’re going to be thinking about them so much it distracts you from the joy and fun of your day then find a nice cover up, but I promise you no one cares about your arms as much as you do.
People are going to see a good lookin’ bride! Nothing else. We’re our biggest critics. Focus on what you love about your body in your dress.

You look great! No one will really notice but you. I worried about my arms too though.

Try not to press your arm against your body too much. That makes them look larger.
But, I’m serious... no one will really notice. You look great in that dress!

Adding drape sleeves is easy enough. That's what I'm doing with mine. My seamstress is making them removable so when I'm ready i can remove them.
