Famous Dave's Catering Question.. Can anyone help me?!?!

Mrs. Del Grosso, on January 17, 2013 at 12:27 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

So we decided to go with Famous Dave's for the catering (yummmm). It will be buffett style with famous dave's people serving etc... Did anyone have them as their caterer? If you did can you provide me with pictures (if any) of how the setup looked. I know they have complimentary plates and etc... were these glass plates? plastic but nice looking (for a wedding)

Any one with experience please help!!

I'm not sure if different restaurants have different catering flatware/silverware. I've had catering from Famous Dave's, and while the food is very yummy, the plates it was served on was hardly nice looking and would not be something you'd want to use for a day as important as your wedding. If I were you, I would swing by a site like smartyhadaparty.com or one of the other dozen sites that offer really nice, disposable plates and silverware instead. You can expect to pay somewhere around $250 for really good looking disposable plates, forks/knifes/spoons, "glasses", etc - for like 100 people, or $2.50 a person. Hope this helps!

Furute Mrs. D we were thinking about doing Famous Daves as well. Were they reasonably priced?? Did you get to go in for a tasting or anything? Did you pay all upfront?? Sorry for so many questions I just have heard so many mixed reviews on them I just don't know which way to swing.

I worked at Famous Daves in college and did some of the catering, I dont know if it has changed since I worked there, but the plates we provided were not nice at all, and we had little plastic bags with a napkin and a "spork" for the utensils. Its great food, but not all that classy (it is bbq afterall) so I definitly agree with Tina and purchase your own.

**things may have changed since I worked there over 7 years ago (ugg I feel old) but I cant imagine FDs would have anything that would as nice as you are hoping for.

Jennifer M.- We did not offer tastings, but you can easily just have dinner there and sample quite a bit of their selection with the different combos they offer. The catering menu is the same as the restaurant menu, just with bigger portions obviously.

    Hope this helps!

@Tinabobina - I don't want to order extra if they already have it all provided, I just wanted to see what it looked like.

Jennifer M - They are very reasonable priced for the amount of food I ordered. It was around $3800 for 200 people which includes, 3 different meats, 3 or 4 sides, rolls, and the cornbread muffins, 4 or 5 different appetizers, then they provide complimentary napkins, plates, silverware, extra bbq sauce. They serve the food (buffet) they bus tables, they take care of trash, this is for 4 hours of service. 1 hour to setup, 2 1/2 hours of serving, 1/2 hour to break down. they can bring tables or if ur venue has them u can provide them. the price also includes, taxes, tips, services fees etc. I've heard nothing but great things about them and have not seen one review under 4.5 out 5 stars on WW. i didn't even read the reviews before deciding to go with them. They have all types of options to choose from. the catering manager i'm communicating with is amazing! cont...

Shes responds to everything in a timely manner and stays on top of stuff. she's sweet as can be and caters to all my needs and questions. i couldn't ask for a better catering company to go with. and as far as i know they don't have a tasting you can go to but i've had their food several times so i'm not worried about that. the ones that are invited to my wedding and have had famous daves before are beyond excited they are the caterers for the wedding. hope this helps!!

@Future Mrs. D, What is the location of your wedding? If your wedding is in TN, I am probably your Event Specialist & happy to answer your questions. All TN Famous Dave's offer options for your plates, utensils, etc. The standard is Chinet-quality paper plates & plastic utensils or you can upgrade to Premium Black, Clear or White Plastic Plateware and Reflections utensils. If you prefer glass or China, we can help you coordinate the rental of those items.

@Jennifer M., The TN Famous Dave's offer a complimentary Tasting for all brides. A deposit is not necessary so you would pay the day of your wedding. If your wedding is in TN, contact me!

@Melissa B., It sounds likmany things have changed since you worked at Famous Dave's. If you are a bride in TN, you can make it as casual or as formal as you would like! We cater for weddings each weekend and offer the nicest of options as well as an extended Specialty Menu in addition to our BBQ Catering Menu.

9 years ago I hired Famous Dave's to cater my husband's 40th birthday party. Everyone absolutley LOVED the food. Famous Dave's was fantastic throughout the entire process ... from meeting, planning, confirming, do of ... everything went off without a hitch! The plates, utensils, and napkins that they provided were picnic style ... paper and plastic. It worked fine for the birthday party but I think an upgrade would be appropriate for a wedding. If they don't supply it, I would check with a rental company. Perhaps Famous Dave's would be willing to set up the rental dishes for a nominal fee if everything is there for them when they arrive.

    FAMOUS DAVE'S ROCKS!!!!

Hi, I am the Director of Catering for Famous Dave's corporate in Minneapolis. We do a great many weddings every year (check out our bride testimonials in the knot.com for Minneapolis, where we have been awarded "Best Wedding Caterer two years in a row), and the most common feedback is that "So many guests came up to us and said that it was the best wedding food thay had ever had." Generally speaking, our weddings are not fancy, though we have had brides make them so (attached is a photo). We're about celebration and fun, with great food in abundance, so no one leaves hungry. We're very affordable, with most wedding costing about $15 per person. Probably 90% are happy with our white Chinet paper plates, maybe 5% upgrade to a different plate, napkin and silverware for $2 per setting, and maybe 5% rent china and silverware. For our corporate locations, there is no deposit, and a credit card is received about a week out, though it's not charged till the day of the catering.
