I've seen it both ways. I think if the couple is unmarried, the proper etiquette is each person having an individual one. My plan is to just do 1 per family/couple and have everyone listed (as long as they're assigned to the same table). Less cards that way. I always found it silly when I would go to the escort card table and had to pick up 1 for me and one for FH. You mentioned place cards though. Are the meals or exact seats being printed on the cards? If so, each person should get his or her own.

They will be used to potentially mark their seats( because there is diffrent family's in ome table) ive got a few people who are going to hwlp get the message slyly across but if it doesnr work out that way i wont fuss

So wait, are you assigning tables or specific seats? If you are assigning specific seats, then each individual seat (and guest) needs a place card.

    Just tables.
I also have several familys that needed to be split because the family is simply so big. I have cards with names and table numbers. Ill have a sign next to it that says "find your name and claim your seat" something of the sort
So they will use it to basically pick a seat at the table

Ok. So if you are splitting families up, I would do individual cards for each person because having half a family on card A and the other half on card B may he confusing. If it were me, I would most likely pick up the 1st card and not even notice the 2nd lol.

Instead of alphabetical order, to prevent splitting the families up, I would arrange/display them by table. For instance, group everyone that will be sitting at Table 1 together, then Table 2, etc.
