Family Style Dinner

Michele, on June 30, 2020 at 4:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

I really want to do a family style dinner for the reception. But now to pick the foods. If you were going to a family style wedding dinner what would you hope they serve??

I had a family style dinner. but in my culture, family style wedding meals are the norm.

definitely have at least one that is just veggies only.

Think about your guests. What type of foods would they like? Any vegetarians? For example: both my fiancé’s and my parents love seafood so if I was to do a family-style meal, a seafood would be on the list. But I’ll also have a non-seafood dish for those who aren’t crazy about it or allergic to shellfish.

You can serve anything you want. What do caterers and restaurants in your area offer?

I would do two meat options and a veggie option for the entree, then pick two or three sides such as rice pilaf, pasta, etc.

Or you could go Italian and do a salad, pasta and garlic bread.

I always say Italian is the best option for those kind of meals. Its an option for those who like meat and those who don’t do meat.

We had family-style at a 5-star resort for 15 guests (only 2 easy-to-avoid allergies, no vegetarians), so we did short ribs and grilled salmon with 3-4 side dishes.

If you’re having 50+ guests probably 1-2 meat options, and a vegetarian dish, and sides.

I think Italian is an easy/good type of food to do family style. This is what we did for our rehearsal dinner.
I also think family style works best for a smaller intimate wedding. I’d feel awkward as a guest if I was seated with people I don’t know sharing a bowl of food. Just my thoughts.
