Family Sand Cermony with Kids?

IItsumo, on May 29, 2017 at 4:13 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

My FH has 3 amazing kids whom have became a hug part of my life over the years we have been together. we also have a daughter together and we wanted to make the kids feel important on our wedding day. I was discussing this with my STB step daughter who just came to live with us because she was old enough to choose where she wanted to live now and She started to cry because she didn't understand why I was trying to include her when her own mom didn't include her in her recent wedding. I'm just trying to figure out is this something only new Step-moms want to do because its a way to bond with the kids or is it just something new starting that not everyone knows about yet. I tried to talk to my family however most of them have never even heard of this type of sand ceremony but our officiant said he has performed Several of them over the last few years.

Not new, I've been doing them for years -- but there is almost always a guest who says, "I've never seen that before."

I think it is a wonderful way to include children and they agree. Maybe her mom's officiant wasn't familiar with the idea or maybe it wasn't allowed (in a church, etc.).

Couples have also given children tokens of family unity (pendants are better than rings, because they don't get outgrown). For my beach weddings, the boys like to get a shark's tooth pendant! Pearl pendants are always good for the girls.

Sand ceremonies are quite common for blended families as are ceremonies where you give them a family necklace or ring. I think it's wonderful that you're including them. I come from a blended family and once fh and I are married we'll be a blended family so I get where you're coming from.

Unless you are in the industry or go to a lot of weddings, you may not have seen this before.

I love sand (or glass) for blended families. You could also look into a paint pouring or a hand tracing.

Aww! Was she crying because she doesn't want to do it? Or happy tears? We'll be doing a sand ceremony with my future step kids and FH. I love that we are becoming a family.
