Family photos

Cherokee, on September 14, 2016 at 7:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

I am trying to figure out who will be in family portraits on the wedding day. Is it necessary to have the whole family in a picture ? At my cousins wedding she had her immediate family and extended family on just one side. She had everyone do individual family shots and then one big group picture. Is this necessary? It took so long and I feel like I just want my immediate family to keep it simple. If we did my family then would need to do my fiances too without causing drama. What did you guys do ??

They are your pictures so you should have them include the people you choose. I will be doing immediate family and then whole family, but because we are all super close.

My photographer suggested taking one of everyone who is at the ceremony. So right before they pronounce us husband and wife everyone will stand up turn around and get one photo of everyone.

We did a picture of us with my brother and sister, and both sets of grandparents. For DH's side we did us with his parents, sister and BIL with their kids, his parents and sister's family, his grandparents and one with his grandparents, sister's family and parents. It only took about 10 minutes. We just gave them the heads up the night before that this is what we wanted to do for pictures so they made sure to stick around after the ceremony.

It's up to you! I just wanted to do immediate family pictures, but I asked my mom and she wants a big extended family one as well. For the big family picture we're just letting everyone know to immediately exit the ceremony and go to the garden on the right for the photo!

Think of the future...are you going to miss the fact you didn't pictures with certain family members? The answer will tell you which family photos to take. I'm telling you now, I wish I had family photos with certain people that we just forgot to take...my grandma passed right after the wedding and I have zero pictures of her from the wedding.

Like most people now a days, my FI and I have unique family situations. My mom passed away 10 years ago and her family lived out of state. My mom and dad divorced 20 years ago so we didn't necessarily stay close with her family after her passing. They're all invited to the wedding, but I'm not going to do formal portrait with them. My dad and I will do a first look before the ceremony. Then after we'll do B&g w/ dad, w/dad and grandparents, w/ whole family (my uncle is officiating). Then his side will be B&G w/ gma, w/gpa, w/ best man's family whom he lived with during HS.

We plan to only have 4 family pictures done - 1 with each set of parents and those siblings. We both hate posed photos so we are only doing this for the parents.

We are just doing a few of the family photos (mostly for our parents to have) My immediate family and grandparents and FH's immediate family. We are more interested in the fun un-staged photos and capturing the moments of the day. We are having our cocktail hour at a carousel (wedding is at the zoo!) so we want to get over there and get some shots on the carousel for sure! Smiley smile

Yea I think it will be way too much to have both our families do whole family portraits. He has about 30 people in his family and my family is like 20. That is half the wedding basically ! We will def have pics w the grandparents but I think it ks way too much coordinating 50 people for a photo. They will be in pictures at the wedding.

My photographer asked me to make a list of everyone I want to get photos with. I have a really small family and would like to get at least one of my aunts, uncles, cousins. Basically ends up being 10 of us. My FH is in a the same boat. I am sure whatever you decide your photographer will get a lot of pictures of everyone.

If we did it we would probably do like..one photo with each family(meaning one with my mom's side, one with my dad's side, and one with my fiances)...but I doubt we will..i imagine we'll do like..one with the parents together, one with each set separately, and one with my brothers...
