Family member officiating

Liz, on March 4, 2021 at 11:38 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7
My fiances sister will be officiating our ceremony, she has never done this before and going through the process of becoming ordained to do it and handling all the legal stuff. None of us know much about weddings to begin with, and have no guidance from a professional officiant. What do the 3 of us need to do to get ready for the ceremony. What scripts are needed etc.

I would check out one of the websites that helps people get ordained. They usually have tips for how to perform the ceremony and different tips ans options. You could also watch other ceremonies on YouTube to get a feel for what you want.

I agree with Connie. My husband's uncle got ordained online for free with the Universal Life Church, and he got a lot of useful resources that helped him craft a beautiful ceremony for us.

Be sure to double check with your county office that she is able to legally officiate the ceremony. Otherwise, check out Pinterest for ceremony scripts! My fiance's friend is officiating our ceremony, and we are writing the ceremony script for him. I found a lot of examples on Pinterest, and took bits and pieces of each to make it my own.

Whatever script she uses I would just tell her to make a note of when she'll ask for the rings. I've seen a lot of family members officiating forget about the rings lol.

Agree with this. Make sure it's legal then if so, fill out paperwork to be ordained for the day through the marriage license office. Find out what needs to be said in the ceremony to make it legal ("do you take this person to be your partner?")

You can find ceremonies online via Pinterest, offbeatbride.com.

My fiancés step-dad is going to be our officiant, I'm in California but as far as I know it is free to get ordained and a lot of the websites have scripts that you can use. I went through Universal Life Church and their website has a ton of scripts so I used a bunch of different scripts to create my own and it was really easy! You can include or exclude whatever you want and they have a script for every type of wedding!

My uncle is doing ours and got ordained through American Marriage Ministries. But yes be sure to check the website for the county you are getting married in, some will have specific verbiage that needs to be used at some point in the ceremony.
