Fall wedding photography - time change

Kelsey, on September 19, 2019 at 8:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
We are having a late November, 2020 wedding at a beautiful venue.

The plan is for a 4pm wedding in CST. Ceremony will be 25-30 minutes. Is that enough light for outdoor photos immediately after the ceremony? Sunset is at 5:23PM.

i am about to start interviewing photographers so if there are suggestions on what to ask that would be great!

It should be fine as long as you’re taking the majority of your wedding party pictures before the ceremony.

I'd ask your photographer for their input regarding your timeline. A good photographer should be pretty savvy about knowing/checking time of sunset, etc. Daughter's photographer had never worked her venue before, but after contracting with him, he was more than happy to meet us there about a year before her wedding to see/talk about where he'd take photos and his expectations about lighting, etc. There are apps that you can access to not only know the time of sunset, but to also see the angle of the sun on a particular date.

How many photos? I don’t think that will be enough time to do bridal party, family, and couples photos. But doing some of those before the ceremony will help. Every photographer is different on how much time they need and the size of family/wedding party, where you want pictures done, and how many different pictures you want will impact what is possible. Definitely something to bring up when interviewing!

I am getting married November 2019. My ceremony is at 5:30pm (ceremony 30 min).

Because of that, we decided to do a first look so that we have plenty of light for photos.

I'd definitely bring that up with your photographer, and if I were you, I'd do a first look and photos before the ceremony. You can always get some sunset photos of you and your FS post-ceremony if the lighting is really good, but that way you make sure you're not rushed.
