Fall 2020 Dress

Shaina, on August 1, 2018 at 1:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I am not sure when to start looking my FMIL told me to start looking the year of when I get married. Others are telling me to look now and my mom is saying to look next year in the fall. What do you all do? How long did you wait?

Wait. New dresses will be out and your taste may change.

Personally, I knew what type of dress I wanted. I am not getting married until October of next year, but my dress is already in and in storage until next year when I need to get all the alterations done. If you know what you want I’d say go for it.

It can take 6-10 months for a dress to come in if you order it. I started shopping 1 year ahead but due to work, spread out my trips (it took me 8-10 stores to find "The One"). Wish I started 18 months ahead.

I'd probably say wait until at least 2 years before your wedding (this fall) and be sure not to commit too early (some brides whose dress came in a year before the wedding seem to change their minds and then have to spend more money on another dress! Ugh.)

The typical time line is to start looking about one year out, since dresses typically take months to come in and then there are alterations.

That being said, some people find their dress a lot sooner and others wait until the last second 😅 I am eyeing my dress already and my wedding is also fall of 2020. 💁 I know my taste wont change though, personally. It really depends on the individual. I think when you find "the one" you know, so unless you're prone to being wishy washy, it's fine to look early.

I would wait just a little longer. At least until this October, if not until next spring sometime!

I will start going to dress shops this winter/next spring (we'll be about 1 year to 1.5 years out) and will hopefully find my dress!

Wait!!! I was engaged for 24 months and my taste and style completely changed within that time frame. I am so happy I did not get the dress I originally wanted.

I found my dress pretty soon after getting engaged. However, I knew once I made up my mind, I would stick with it and I was waiting a little over a year.

2020 is SO FAR AWAY. You tastes will change. Dresses will change. Wait until about a year before the wedding.

You have plenty of time! I would wait and not rush any decisions.

I went shopping a few years ago and i am glad I did - I was able to get the dress I wanted on a sample sale for a great price. However, if I had waited I wouldn't have been able to get it as it is no longer available.

    Wait!!!

You have over two years until your wedding. Your taste may change, new dress styles come out every season, you may have a bigger dress budget if you wait and save more, and your body could change. You could gain or lose weight in the next 2 years.

I bought my dress a year and a half before my wedding and even that was too soon, its been sitting in my closet for a year now, and I still have 5 months to go. I could have waited. I went to Davids Bridal and it only took 6 days to come in.

The best time to shop is about a year before the wedding

I'm getting married in fall of 2020, but I'm going to start looking this fall so that I can get that out of the way and paid off of it's too much money.
