Fake wedding cake

I am on a strict budget for our wedding so I have been considering purchasing a 5 tier plain white wedding cake and getting the middle 3 tiers Styrofoam covered in fondant. I am on a strict budget for our wedding so I have been considering purchasing a 5 tier plain white wedding cake and getting the middle 3 tiers Styrofoam covered in fondant. Then adding some touches of decor myself. Has anyone heard of someone doing this? Is this a bad idea and most importantly will it save me a significant amount of money?

    As a baker there is no difference between an iced sheet cake and a decorated tiered cake. I would even argue that the sheet cake would taste better since its not sitting out as decoration. Talk to your baker and decide if fake layers are cheaper with them if not I would consider doing an elaborate cake stand/pedestal. You could also diy that and make something really unique.
