Fake tan necessary???

BlushingBride84, on September 20, 2014 at 2:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

So I'm getting married in February, obviously not the prime time of the year to catch a natural glow from the sun. I'm also kinda terrified of the sun because I've already got sun damage on my face from years of sun exposure. Do all brides pretty much do a spray tan or can your makeup artist give you a bronzy glow that will look just as good as a tan? Just don't want to look fake orange on my wedding day but want to have a pretty glow in pictures and in person of course Smiley smile

If you do decide to tan I'd recommend doing a spray tan with an actual person instead of in the machine. That way they can make sure it's not overdone. If you want to tan I would give it a trial run maybe a month or two before to make sure you like the results.

If you are wearing any shade of white, off-white, cream, etc I would skip the tan in general. In my opinion, natural skin with no tan looks best in wedding dresses. They are normally so light in color that they give you more of a glow no matter what. Plus if you look at any of the designer gowns in advertising, the models are all pale!

But, thats just my opinion. Totally up to you either way. But I would suggest letting the makeup artist give you that "glow" you are looking for. Or if you do a spray tan just make sure it is subtle! But I agree with JaKLyn, you definitely would want a technician doing it rather than the machine Smiley smile

Just be yourself. You don't need a tan to be a glowing bride, plus it's an added cost. Finding a look with a makeup artist is better. If people are use to seeing you with a tan then a spray tan would be a good option though...

However you are most comfortable! I agree with everyone about avoiding the machine spray tans! I really like the jergans natural glow too if you want to try another option. You just use it everyday and it gradually tans you. I usually get a nice glow, but it's not as extreme as a spray tan. I've never been orange or streaky using it because you can control how dark you go. You'll just have to get someone to do your back. If you don't want to worry about it, just go the make up route! Just ask for a trial, not everyone's definition of a "pretty glow" is the same. Smiley smile

Thanks ladies Smiley smile my fiancé keeps "joking" that he doesn't want me to look totally fake or plastic on our wedding day. I have only done a spray tan once and it was with a person rather than machine. It turned out pretty good but I think you all have me leaning towards just going natural with a good makeup artist ! And a few trial runs with whatever I choose sounds key! Lol

I had a spray tan trial about a week ago..... I hated it at first because I felt like I looked like a pumpkin..... then after my 2nd shower I started to like the color. Definitely have a technician do it and definitely do a trial first! My technician is doing me again Monday afternoon for my Thursday wedding.

I'm having a spray done primarily to help with my horrible tan lines. But I'm doing a trial and am going to a very well known spa/resort to get it done... it's silly expensive, but i have done spray-tan-gone wrong and it is NOT a good look! I'm definitely going to make it subtle and will get it done about 3 days before the wedding so the first layers can wash off in the shower.

Well it depend on your choice, I think it’s not that necessary but you should try getting some other tan remedies instead of getting it in the sun, So yes go for natural bronze look.

I'm in the same boat as Future Mrs. Matthews. I can't tan. I've tried. I turn incredibly and painfully red, then peel, and then I'm back to my pasty white self. I'm not planning on tanning for the wedding, either. It's me, it's how I look every other day of the year, so why try to pretend to be someone I'm not on my wedding day. I'm going to rock my whiteness and hope that I don't blind people with the light that reflects off my skin lol

IMO, I think brides look best in their natural skim tone. If you want to add a hint of color, maybe buy a lotion that adds subtle color...I think Sally Henson or Jergens makes it.

I had an airbrush spray tan done for my bachelorette...it was my trial tan for the wedding. And I loved it! It was not orange, it looked real, and it wasn't difficult or a pain in the ass to deal with. I would definitely recommend an airbrush spray though over the machines that do it for you, those tend to miss a lot of areas and are just wet and sticky and gross. Airbrush tans are done by a person, and they are able to really cover your whole body..I love it!

Dear god the ignorance here of some people. My best friend used to work at a tanning salon and give custom spray tans so I would get the light one all the time. Literally looked like a nice all over glow that you could achieve with makeup (but won't come off on your dress). There's light, medium, and dark and they can usually mix something inbetween. Do what makes you feel CONFIDENT. Do I normally get a spray tan or even wear makeup? No. But you better believe for special occasions I have no problem doing that. It'll last for the honeymoon too and my friend could even do a little contouring which made everything look skinnier and toned. I'm not going to give you advice either way, but don't feel like this is any more "fake" than wearing makeup.

I would suggest getting Jergens Natural Glow lotions...there is one for the face and an all over body. After a few uses it tints your skin to more of a "sun kissed" color and even smells great.

I have gone back and forth about this. A large part of me wanted to just go to a tanning booth because I like my skin best when it's tan but due to skin cancer running in the family, I just could not bring myself to do it. I don't want that risk. I did some research into spray tans and I do know a few people who had successful ones but I also know some who have had not so successful ones.

I've decided to just embrace my paleness for the most part. I did start using Jergens Natural Glow lotions as Maltese mentioned. I haven't noticed too big of a difference but it's better than nothing.

I use Jergens Natural Glow Lotion..,.the body one and the face one. I get a great glow and it looks so smooth and natural. I use it after a shower three times a week. It's just lotion with a little bit of self tanner in it. So, you gradually become tanner. It's not too expensive either.
