Fake or Real Rose Petals?

Hannah, on May 13, 2020 at 7:05 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 21

Hey everyone!

I am planning on doing rose petals lining both sides of the aisle. I got an estimate from a florist and it will be $260. However, I found realistic-looking fake ones on Amazon and it would and up being $100+ cheaper. Also, the petals for the flower girl will be $50 vs $15 or so from Amazon. Do you think guests would notice and/or care if they are real? What are your thoughts?

Thanks in Advance!

I don't think guests would look that closely at rose petals on the floor to be honest, i would save the money and go with fake

Guests won’t care but my venue didn’t allow fake petals.

If your venue will allow fake petals, save the money and go with those. I honestly don't think anyone will notice the difference, and if they do, they won't care Smiley smile I'm thinking of doing the same!

The only fake flowers we had were in the water fountain and on our arch. Our flower girls threw real petals. I would have gone with fake ones for them to throw, but my florist said she could just use any left over flowers she had for the petals. She normally reuses fake petals for her weddings, but she didn't have any in the color that we needed. No one will really care if you use fake ones so I would just go with fake ones.

Check with your venue too ! Our wedding was suppose to be outside so if we used fake ones we would've been responsible to have them all picked up afterwards.

If you’re inside, go with fake petals. If you’re outside, I’d go with real (most venues require that for outdoor ceremonies, plus better for the environment as fake flowers can’t break down) but check cheaper florist maybe? I know that you can order in bulk at Costco/Sam’s club and it’s not super pricey but not sure if they have just petals and in your color.

I’d say go with fake petals. Some indoor venues will not allow you to use real petals as they can stain the floors.

Many venues do not allow fake petals that are not biodegradable. Check fiftyflowers.com for real petals. If there is a flower wholesaler in yor area, you may be able get them for almost nothing since the flowers on the stems would be trashed otherwise.

Real petals will not stain unless you violently grind them into fabric (dress, carpet, etc) with extreme force that no one will be using.

Not at all. Save your money. I had the same questions earlier in my planning and it seems A LOT of brides use real flowers in their bouquets, the attendants bouquets, and the boutonnieres, but use silk for everything else. Don't worry about impressing anyone else. The day is about you and your FH...I truly doubt anyone would say a word about silk flowers...And if they do say something, they may deserve to be escorted out 😉

We are going with fake rose pedals. No one will notice. And If they do, who cares? The ceremony is short and sweet and they should be focused on you two anyway! Keep that budget tight because something might come up during the planning process that costs more than planned that you can use the savings from other wedding elements towards.

Our venue doesn't allow fake rose petals on their property so we have to do real ones. I want a lot and it's expensive but oh well, better for the environment anyways. Smiley smile

It really wouldn't matter if they are real or fake. Fake flowers are more popular than you think. They'll still be gorgeous and most people don't even notice even if they are looking. That's the beauty of it lol.

Why not get the petals from costco? They are only $69 for 4lbs!

Fiftyflowers has bags of real petals for pretty cheap. I looked into it when I felt our florist's quote was a bit high for them. Keep in mind you may be responsible for the setup and cleanup of the petals if you aren't ordering through your florist. This ended up being an issue at our venue because ceremony decor has to be cleaned up immediately and I wasn't going to ask a family member or friend to sweep the floor during cocktail hour! If you have a wedding planner they might take care of that.

Is your ceremony indoors or outdoors? Indoors I’d do the fake petals. Outdoors I’d splurge for the real ones so you don’t have to be as concerned about picking them up after

I would go with Fake. Real ones seem to like they would be a waste of money.

I would do fake since noones gonna pick one up, gasp that the atrocity of fake petals, then run screaming with their nose in the air! You can even rent petals, centerpieces, bms bouquets, ect,. It saves cost wise, is more environmental friendly, anyone with allergies will thank you, they are already assembled, some websites you can customize, and they are real feel.

I am buying artificial rose petals from amazon and I will use a tad bit of essential oils on them so they could have a fresh smell to them

Whatever works and is cheapest! I don’t think anyone cares. I would make sure it’s ok with the venue, ours require real petals outdoors!!
