Fake lashes vs lash extensions

KristenHaley, on July 7, 2017 at 3:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21

Has anyone had lash extensions before? How long do they last and what is the typical cost of them? I would rather do that than fake lashes I think. They have just now started to get popular in my area so I'm not very familiar. Thank you!

They range from 200-500ish for a full set and need to be filled in roughly every 2 weeks....I don't think you are supposed to wear mascara with them-which seems weird for a wedding day to me. I ended up going with strip lashes just because they were easy.

ETA: make sure to do a test run well In advance of the wedding for any lashes you plan to do. the glues can cause a reaction in some people so youd want to have time for it to clear just in case.

Obsessed with my lash extensions! I highly recommend them. I look put together with no effort, they are not heavy but do require maintenance. No mascara (you really don't need it), no putting your face directly into the shower stream, etc. And they are pricey ($40 per fill, $150 initial set), but I won't stop getting them filled. I stopped getting manicures and substituted my lashes.

Oh my goodness, I had no idea they would be that expensive! I was expecting over $100 but not up to $500. I am a hairstylist so I know it's bad I don't know about this, lol. What lash serum do y'all reccommend then? I know my makeup artist can do fake lashes and they look good, I have worked with her at weddings doing hair.

I did lash extensions for about two months and I wouldn't really recommend it. They are very expensive ($250-500 for a full set) and really do need to be filled in every 3-4 weeks which runs about $50-80. They also require quite a bit of maintenance as you have to brush them daily, no mascara, and you have to avoid eye products with oil. They do look great but not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Hi! I actually posted something similar a few weeks back and then ended up getting lash extensions for a trial run. For me, it was $125. You want to make sure to go to the most reputable place you can find, as there definitely are risks. For me, she made me try the silk ones first, even though I wanted to go with the more natural mink. I guess you can also be allergic to the mink itself, so they make you do the silk first.

Overall, I think they looked beautiful, but I could not stand the feeling. It wasn't super heavy, but the only way I can describe it is like constantly feeling like your eyes are crusty, but there's nothing there? At one point, I think one of the lashes on my right eye was also tugging on my real lash, cuz I got a little dull, achey feeling from it right at the root (no rash or reaction though). All in all, I could only handle it for about 1.5 weeks and then went in to get them removed. While they were super pretty, I think I'd much rather deal with falsies on the big day so I can take them off at night!

@Christy any eyelid discoloration from it? I want to try a serum, but I'm worried about that!

I did lash extensions because I wanted long lashes for all of my wedding events but can't apply a pair of strip lashes to save my life. Super expensive, super high maintenance, but they look amazing. I had the makeup artist apply mascara to them on my wedding day for a little more umph but other that than no makeup and nothing with oil or else you'll break down the glue and they will fall out. I am a stomach sleeper too and that definitely took a toll on the lashes.

Wow, thank you for all the feedback! This helped a lot because up until this point I didn't know much about them! I had no idea of the no mascara, no shower steam, etc. My natural lashes aren't bad at all especially with really good mascara, the it cosmetics superhero is my favorite. I think I'll try a serum, falsies and a great mascara. Thank y'all so much!!

I do lash extension in Kansas. They are amazing! It depends where you live on the cost. I charge $150 for a full set and every 2weeks you need a fill bc they shed with your natural lash. They are horrible if you like to pick and pull your natural lash to begin with. The lash extension I provide comes with a mascara that's specially made for them but with the extensions you will not need mascara.
